Dorian was seated in front of Chaol, a careful expression laid on his friend's face.

"You're not doing that," Chaol started again, this was all he said during the days they'd been together. "You are not going to kill yourself like this, there must be another way."

"Chaol," Dorian sighed. "You know it's either me or Aelin and she's not here."

Besides Dorian didn't want his friend to sacrifice herself for his father's mistakes. His father and Perrington had freed Erawan and now Dorian wasn't letting Aelin pay for his fathers mistakes.

"We wait." Chaol said, in the same voice he used when he was Captain of the Royal Guard, a voice that wasn't questioned.

"We wait and then what? Let Aelin die?" His voice failed. They didn't know what was happening to her, wherever Maeve had toook her.

"No. She'll help us find away. No one has to die." They both knew it was a lie.

"So we will wait until she comes back. And if she does we still have to find a plan? You know that sooner or later Erawan is going to attack us. We need the Lock." Dorian said as the door opened.

Yrene entered. And bowed her head slightly. "Your mother and brother are asking for your presence. Again."

"I'll go to them in a minute." He didn't feel much like talking to his mother. Lately she had been confined in a room on the ship and constantly asking Dorian to join them. She wasted her days talking about how much she'd prefer to go back to the castle and how sick she was feeling.

Hollin was getting taller and everyday looked more like their father. His dark eyes made Dorian wonder sometimes if he had inherited some Valg power. It was very possible, once their father had been possessed by the Valg before Hollin was born.

His father had been possessed by the Valg for as long as he'd know him. Dorian had never met his real father.

On the day Dorian was born his father had built the clock tower in the Castle, and that made Dorian believe he wasn't in any part Valg, for his father and Duke Perrington had only freed the Valg King later. But Hollin could be half Valg.

So, every time his mother called him he went to see them. To see Hollin and look for Valg signs in him, or magic.

Dorian realized he'd been staring at nothing for a while and coughed. Chaol was observing him closely. "What is it?"He asked.

"Nothing," Dorian answered rapidly and then noticed Chaol's eyes. They were sad and distant, but they shifted in an instant.

"How's Hollin doing?" Chaol seemed little interested in Hollin's condition, but there was a silence growing around them. An uncomfortable silence that not even words could fill. A black hole between them, dug by time and distance.

Dorian only now noticed the difference in Chaol. He was a different person from the one that left to the Southern Continent. A different person from the one he had been best friends with.

Maybe one day they would get that friendship back, but, maybe, their friendship had been doomed from the day they met that mysterious assassin. Not only their friendship but also their lives.
