Aelin was herself again. For the first time since she'd left her continent.

She had missed Rowan so much. But now wasn't time for reunions. Maeve should now by now something had gone wrong.

Aelin remembered everything she had seen and heard while she was imprisoned in her own body. Maeve was a Valg Queen, and she had a plan... an awful plan in her mind. And that was the only thing she couldn't remember. She remembered the other plan, whatsoever, the Valg princess had to pretend Aelin killed her and then attack Rowan, but Aelin burned her out and now she was herself again.

She looked at him.

"Rowan, it's me. It's really me." He looked away. Not fast enough for her to miss the hurt that flashed in his eyes.

"Rowan, that knife, that wasn't me. I'm me now. Please believe me." She begged.

He opened his mouth as if he was going to say something but then shut it.

She heard his voice inside her. How? After everything how can I be sure you are you?

He had talked through their mating bond. As if reassuring himself it was still there. That it was indeed there.

They here silent for some time and then he opened his mouth again. This time he did not stop himself.

"You lied to me. Even before all of this. You knew we were mates and you didn't tell me. You made this plan of your own and didn't even think about the consequences. You should have told me!" Rowan exploded. "How can I trust you after all this? How can I be sure you won't sacrifice yourself again?"

Aelin looked down. She should have trusted him, but he wouldn't have let her do what was needed. "You... you're mad at me, and I understand if you hate me for what I've done..." she whispered.

Rowan looked like she had said the stupidest thing ever. "No... I'll never hate you, Fireheart... I love you. But I wish you would have trusted me."

Her eyes burned. She started sobbing. "I'm sorry."

He only looked around. "Lets go. Now."

Rowan was now running through the woods. Aelin some steps behind him. Just like they used to do while she was training at Mistward.

She let herself smile at that thought.

They were running towards the ocean, probably there was some boat waiting for them.

With Rowan by her side she didn't fear. He was the most powerful full-blooded Fae alive.

But then two wolves appeared behind them. Too close for her to do anything but shout for Rowan. They were almost there. Almost.

And then she stepped on a rock that shouldn't have been there and fell.

She tried to tell Rowan to continue as the whole world went black.
