Chapter One
I crept silently through the forest, listening to every little sound. The moon was high above me in the sky, lighting my way in the dark forest. 'Perfect night for this'. I thought, looking at the full moon. 'At least I'll be able to see a bit better'.
I walked deeper and deeper into the forest, searching for any signs on movement, when I saw movement out of the corner of my eye. Ducking behind a bush I peered around to take a look at my surroundings.
I was in a part of the forest with all the old trees as tall as the sky itself. Trees with branches thicker than my body itself. The ground held little clutter on it besides a few bushes here and there between the tree trunks. The trunks itself could provide more than enough space to hide myself but there was too big of a distance between the trunks. I would surely be seen.
There where a few guards that I could see from my position. Each placed about 20 feet away from each other, setting a boundary 'A boundary to keep me out'. I thought to myself 'There's no way I could make it back them on the ground. I'd be caught before I got within 10 feet'.
Looking back up I sighed quietly to myself. 'So much for not climbing tonight'. I thought as I moved to the closest tree. Trying to climb up as silently as possible. I grabbed the branch above the one I was on, hoisting myself up.
I was now more than 15 feet off the ground. Falling now would not feel too good.
I slowly walk my way down the branch towards the next tree. Perching myself at the end I looked at the adjacent branch then down bellow to where the guard was. 'There's no way I can make this jump without a bit of noise'. I think to myself as I wonder what I can do to get across unseen.
My hand brushes against my hip pouch as I turn to get a look at my surroundings. 'That's it!' I think as I pull my sling shot off my waist. Opening the pouch I pull out a pebble. Placing it in the sling shot I aim it in the directing I just came from and let it go.
I watched as the guards attention darts towards where the pebble landed. I hold my breath and send another in the same direction. 'Please fall for it, please fall for it.' I pray silently watching what the guard does.
The guard quickly and quietly darts in the direction I launched my pebbles. 'Its now or never'. I think as I launch myself across the gap, my foot slipping and making a bit of noise as I do. I dart around the opposite side of the tree and hold my breath as the guard comes back, looking around.
'Please don't see me'. I silently pray as he looks up in my direction. After a brief moment he turns his attention away and goes back to his original position.
'Yes!' I thought 'I'm almost there, just a bit more!' I quickly lower myself from the tree and edge silently towards where my goal is.
I stop at the edge of a clearing and crouch. In the middle of the lit clearing I see my target. My target is a male, just over 19 falls old, just over two years older than me. He had strawberry blonde hair, a little shaggy looking, with piercing emerald green eyes. His skin was fair, and his lips were pale. He was definitely tall, somewhere around the 6'0 range, much taller than my 5'5.
I could see him moving towards my area, talking to a guard. I wasn't able to hear what there were talking about before the guard left. My target was just a few feet in front of me now. I heard him sigh as he turned around, unknowingly turning his back to me.
'Its now or never'. I thought 'I wont get a chance like this again'. And with that final thought I looked around the clearing to check for guards before rushing forward. Silent as a mouse. I pulled my Dirk dagger out of its scabbard as I moved forward. Standing up right. I reached out in front of me with my right hand and pressed the dagger against the front of his neck, grabbing his shoulder with my left so he couldn't move away. I felt my targets breath catch in his throat as the metal of the dagger touched his skin.
"Why hello Sam" I purred out. "Looks like I have you beat" I say with a grin on my face. I took the dagger away from the man's neck as he turns around and chuckles. "Well hello to you too Winter. It looks like you've won. How many men caught you as you worked your way here?" Sam questioned and he got a good look at me. "None" I say with a smirk as I place my dagger back into it scabbard. "Really?" He asks in shock. "Good job little sis!" He exclaimed. Turning away from me Sam lets out a loud ear piercing whistle. "Games over guys, Winter has won!" He shouts. The 'guards' all coming to the clearing.
"Let's go back home boys! We've got some celebrating to do" Sam says with a laugh as we head back towards camp.
"The have to make you a Hunter now Winter" Sam says leaning down towards my ear. I just give him a quick smile. 'I sure hope so'.
