Yes, Yes It Does.

"Your concerns are well noted, Mr. Pimmit, but I do have to say that while this is a rare occurrence, this is possible." The doctor takes Nova from my hands and uses his flashlight to check her eyes. "And what a stunning green they are! Many aren't lucky to be born with green eyes."

"So you're saying that this is my child?" Pimmit asks. He chose to sit a little farther from me than necessary, but I chose to ignore it because I knew the truth.

"Seems so. The paternity test came back ninety-eight percent positive." He boops Nova on the nose and gently places her back in my arms. "I understand that you had some questions last time you were here?"

"How could we, with her brown eyes and my blue eyes, make a green-eyed baby?" Pimmit seems a little more open, and his hard shell begins to crack.

Ever since we found out that Nova's eyes were green two weeks ago, Pimmit would barely speak to me; and if he did, it was only when necessary. When we received the test results in the mail, Pimmit was still leery and decided that he wanted to go back to the doctor to 'double check'.

Trust issues.

After some family research, I found that my grandmother's husband, my mom's dad, had green eyes, and it was a strong gene in his family line. And knowing that traits sometimes skip a generation or two, I figured that it was time for the green eyes to show.

"Well, it seems that you two must share a relative that have green eyes in their family. For you, Mr. Pimmit I would assume it is a parent?"

Pimmit shakes his head, and I can see his demeanor hardening again. I wish that he would stop trying to be so stubborn.

"My mother has blue eyes, and so does my father." He pauses and raises his finger. "Now that I think about it, one of my sisters has green eyes."

"So I'm gonna go with a grandparent. Either way, traits don't always show up every generation. Some can stay dormant for generation upon generation until there's a lucky baby, like our dear Nova here."

Pimmit soaks up the doctor's words. And when he finally accepts that I haven't cheated on him, he stands up and gives me a hug.

"I'm sorry for the way I act." Taking Nova from me, he looks at me with tears in his eyes. "I keep apologizing for the same thing, and not a damn thing has changed. I can't keep doing this." Placing his hand on my cheek he smiles at me. "I should have never doubted you."

Wow. He really is good at making you rethink your life, isn't he?

As we pack up to leave the hospital a young male nurse stops Pimmit in the corridor.

"Hey man, congrats on the baby. Nothing's gonna stop you from living your best life....good on you." He hits Pimmit lightly on the arm with a folder before walking away.

"How do you know that man? And what was he talking about?" I ask, looking in the direction the nurse went.

"He's an old friend."

The way he responds tells me that he doesn't want to dive any deeper. And given his sexual history, I don't think I wanted him to.
