"Shit!"

Romeo sat bolt upright, only just remembering what Tybalt had said. They were meeting. In the Capulet orchard. At three flipping pm.

Romeo didn't even know what time it was now, so he threw on a random shirt and stuck his head out of his room. A servant was hurrying by. "Sir, your mother-"

"What time is it? Quick, tell me dude!"

The servant - Tom, Romeo recalled - was flustered, and his cheeks were bright red. "Um, I think, two o'clock, sir? I can check the sundial if you want, but it's quite cloudy outside-"

"No thanks, dude." Romeo withdrew his head and tried not to slam the door in Tom's face.

He to get his thoughts - well, not straight, but not as squiggly-diddly as they were. Last night. Kiss. Tybalt. Today. Tybalt. Orchard. 3 o'clock. Today.

First things first. Romeo ran to his floordrobe and desperately rummaged through, trying to find something that would actually make sense to wear to what he was just starting to realise was a date. Like, a proper date, not just a half-accidental drunk make-out session. He had nothing but a wrinkled silk top in an odd shade of blue, but he didn't have time to find or (get one of the servants to) wash something else. It would have to do. He hoped he hadn't torn the rest of yesterdays clothes, or he would have to turn up in just the top...

Dude, wait. Third date at least, he thought.

He hurriedly dressed and looked around his room. There was nothing that would help him out. Then he had an idea. He rushed out of his room, where Tom was waiting outside, looking worried. "Sir, uh, are you alright? Your mum-"

"Dude, tell my mum I'm fine, just let me do whatever I'm doing, ok? Thanks a lot, bruh," Romeo gabbled. He didn't pause to repeat to the servant, who was standing there  looking more than a little confused, his mouth opening and closing like an aquatic animal. (Servants are very fishy, aren't they?)

Romeo kept on charging through the mansion, until he was in the cellar. The wine cellar, to be specific. It was a dark place, lit only by a single torch on the wall, with an unsettlingly cold stone floor that he could feel through his leather shoes. There was probably water dripping from the ceiling somewhere.

He slowed down as he stumbled along the room, every now and then tripping on a stupid wonky cobblestone. It was more long then wide, so it should have been a quick visit, but he had to squint to see the labels on the rough-hewn barrels. Some of them were neatly written out, some of them much less so. Some where just spidery scrawls that Romeo didn't even think passed for handwriting.

It took him ten minutes to choose from only three legible options (Hamlet had nothing on him) and then it took another five to find two bottles to store it, or he would've had to roll a barrel along with his nose. He gingerly carried them back up to his room, before darting through the house and into the gardens.

It took him another five minutes to find one of the rose bushes dotted around the place, and he barely payed attention to which of the blood scarlett flowers he picked. He was too intent on what was gonna happen.

He. Was. Meeting. Tybalt.

(Probably) alone.

He slipped into a reverie about how their conversations would go, how long it could last, what would happen after... He only focused his eyes again when he pricked his finger on a particularly nasty thorn, and he had to work the tip out of his finger when it snapped off. He spent far too long using his somehow-perfectly-shaped nails, instead of just using his mouth. By the time it was out and crushed into the dust with his heel, it was half past two, according to the gardener he asked while he hastily gathered up the blooms.

Romeo jogged back to the house and started properly getting ready. He found a random leather bag that could fit both bottle and a wool rug, and tied the roses with a strip of cotton. He was ready.

He was juuuust opening the door to the outside world when someone tapped his shoulder. He turned round quickly to snap something, assuming it was Tom or another servant, but somehow he had forgotten that his mother lived here too. And she was pissed. Even Romeo could tell that she was pissed. Her face was as orange as her carrot-coloured hair.

"Um, hey, mum, really not a good time right now, so-"

Lady Montague slapped her son across the face. It was a pretty BAMF moment, to be honest. "I do not care for what time it is. You can talk to your mother for the first time in two days, or you shall stay here. Where have you been?"

Romeo tried to interject, but it was pointless. One does not simply interject a Montague on a rant. "Bed empty whenever I checked. Your cart was gone!" (he had actually smashed it while doing a dare from Mercutio, but never mind). "How was I to know that you had not died! You should pray dearest that I don't put iron on your window!"

Romeo put a hand to his flaming hot cheek. He felt like it was as red as the roses, limp and forgotten in his hand. "Mum, please do not. Just lemme - let me go."

"To whom or to what?"

"To - to a romance of mine. I would die for them, dearly."

Romeo's mother blinked a few times at that, and seemed to understand what was and had been going on. "Then go, and do not fail to make me proud in whatever crossing of swords takes place!" With that, she swept away in her navy blue cloak, and Romeo was free to go and seek happy nights in happy days.

That chapter wasn't meant to be all about the preparation, but if I added in the actual meeting in here it would be a lot longer than usual so you know what I don't even know but I'm just gonna go ahead and start a new chapter for this and why is this sentence so long? :D

I'm going back to school in a week (and like half a day) and I'm just gonna be so TiReD. Also I might not update so much because homework and getting back home at seven pm and bleh. Sorry if that happens! I also might start another story soon so that might slow things down as well.

Also, thanks for over 120 reads! I know it doesn't seem like a lot, but I didn't think I'd get even 50 reads by this point, so thanks again :)

*Gives everyone lil' rainbow flags*
