The fire crackled softly, filling the room with warmth and light. Y/n sighed peacefully and pulled the blanket over her shoulder, watching the fire dance in the fire place.
For the first time in a long time it was calm and quiet, relaxing to simply do nothing. No missions, no fights or wars, just.. peace, for once."You tired?"
Bucky's voice was soft as he appeared in the living room. Y/n lifted her head and greeted him with a smile. Back when they first met he would always startle her, but not anymore.
"No, not really. Just.. at peace."
Bucky chuckled and walked over to the couch. She lifted her head for him to sit, laying it back down on his thigh. His flesh hand gently went through her hair as they sat in silence, simply watching the fire.
"This was a good idea," y/n softly sighed, breaking the silence.
"What was?"
"To go somewhere, just the two of us."
Bucky chuckled again.
"Really? Even though it's winter?"
She shrugged.
"It's cozy, a cabin in the middle of nowhere. No distractions.."
Y/n sat up and changed her position to sit next to Bucky with her head on the side of his chest. He kissed the top of her head before resting his on top of hers, wrapping his flesh arm around her and rubbing circles on her shoulder. Y/n let out a long sigh as her body became completely relaxed from his touch.
Soon though she found it hard to keep her eyes open. She yawned and snuggled closer to the super soldier.
Bucky laughed quietly and patted y/n on the head, making her hair messy."You sure you're not tired?"
She didn't respond, only rubbed her eyes.
"You wanna go to bed?"
She simply nodded. Bucky stood and y/n groaned from the loss of his body warmth. He carefully lifted her up bridal style, the warm blanket slipping off of her body. He casually walked towards the bedroom, carrying her as if she wayed nothing.
"I could have walked you know.." she mumbled. Y/n felt his chest vibrate as he laughed.
"You wouldn't have made it passed the kitchen. You've been working so hard lately."
"So have you." she replied. He only shrugged.
"I can manage."
He placed her on the soft bedsheets, but it lacked warmth. She shivered.
He laid the thick covers on top of her, pulling it up over her shoulder. She squeezed her eyes shut and shifted a little to find the most comfortable and perfect spot. The super soldier soon snuggled up behind y/n. She turned around, laying on her side as their faces were inches a part. She looked into his eyes and gave him a tired smile. He smiled back and placed his metal hand on her cheek. She always thought it would be cold, but it never was. Y/n put her hand on top his and squeezed it gently.
And she thought this couldn't get any better.. simply staring into her lovers eyes."I love you." she whispered. Bucky let out a chuckle through his nose as their lips met in a gentle kiss.
"I love you too."
She snuggled close to his chest as his metal arm wrapped around her and placed his chin on the top of her head. He was like he was a shield constantly protecting her. It didn't just make her feel safe, it also made her happy. Though she was perfectly capable of defending herself, he was always overprotective, always making sure she was okay.
Y/n meant everything to Bucky, and he meant everything to her.
