Seven: Phone from Home

I jump up and run to my bedroom slamming the door behind me. The emergency hologram projector was playing and that could only mean that something was wrong back home. I grab it out of my nightstand drawer and run into my closet, hoping Lento wouldn't follow me in there. I press the button frantically and my mother's hologram pops up.

"Star-Nova Layla Marie  Fellows you need to have no more contact with the so called, 'YouTube'," Mom says as soon as she pops up.

"Okay Mother, no need to use all of my first names, my middle names, and my last name. What's the problem with YouTube, the band needs me," I retort.

"The enemy can possibly track you if they find out that you are doing it down on Earth. You also need to focus on your studies, I don't know how long you will be there and you may need a career to sustain you before you can come home,"

"Not quitting YouTube or my band, that is my career Mother, music,"

"That will get you nowhere,"

"It's already gotten me somewhere and I have humans who accept me as their own, I'm blendng in fine,"

"Star? Where'd you go? You okay? Baby girl?" Lento calls from outside my bedroom door. What is with the weird names? Do humans really refer to each other as adolescents when they are choosing their mates?

"I have to go, Mother," I tell her as I shut the hologram off and Emerge from my closet. I put my projector into my nightstand. "Sorry L, my Mother was calling me, she's just always concerned."

"Hey that's alright, can I come in? Or is that weird to come into your bedroom for you?" Lento responds. I go and open my bedroom door. I'm face to face with him now and I can think to say is,

"How many first names and middle names do you have?" 

 I said that out loud unfortunately and Lento gives me a concerned weird look.

"You are weird but that what's so great about you. I have one first name, Lento, and one middle name, Clef. Why?" He responds.

"Oh, well, my Mother always calls me by all of my names but I only prefer one of the first  names and one of the middle names," 

"Wait your first name isn't just Star?"

"No its Star-Nova, and I know what you're going to say. I know it's really weird.  I'd prefer just to be Star Marie Fellows instead," I go to my bed and sit. Lento follows. 

"No my name is weird, who names their kid after a slow tempo in music? Besides my brother is Adagio and my sister is Rhapsody, even weirder names that you can't even nickname," Lento says as he sits next to me.

"I'm the only child so my parents had to give me as many names as they could because they knew they couldn't have more children after me. That's why I'm Star-Nova Layla Marie Fellows. The worst part is those name only come out in certain situations. Any other time I'm just Star,"

"That's normal. I think I only learned my siblings middle names by them screwing up badly," Lento looks at me deeply and put his arm around me. I hope he's not mentally sick, that's the only explanation I can think of for why he's so into me. "Ya know S, we've known each other for almost a year and I think I feel closer to you now than I've ever felt."

"It might be because you're sitting so close to me, that's why you feel close. Every other time we interact there's normally a distance of at least half a meter," I tell him. Wow, for a minute I forgot that humans say some dumb things. Lento chuckles.

"Ha, Star I mean like closer emotionally. I actually kinda like, love you. I think I love you."

I stare at him in shock. This was a symbol that a human wanted to mate with another human. I can't mate with Lento, I'm not even a human. I'm in trouble for sure

"Okay, I'm seeing that that might not have been the right thing to say, but Star, it's true, I have deep feelings for you and it's been hard trying to hide them," Lento tries to cover it up that he just poured out his soul to me, but I can see through it, "Um, maybe I should go, will I see you at practice tomorrow? I know Reed can't make it because he's got an exam but Jasper will be there to be a buffer if you're a little awkward. I need to stop rambling. I'll see you Star-Nova Fellows."

He gets up and leaves my room. Not even a minute later I hear my apartment door shut. I still can't believe Lento wants me, an Alien Princess to be his mate, this is what the humans call, Cray-Cray.
