It was getting dark now and security had arrived to lock us in. They were also there to make sure that nobody outside could mess with the investigation or tamper evidence. Part of me was excited, another was curious.
When Zak kissed me it was like he knew exactly how to make me stronger. Because somehow it showed me that he was there and that I wasn't the same scared person I was just a week ago. I had changed these past few days so much. More than anyone could ever know.
"Zak?"
"Yes, Addy?"
"Don't you normally check out the place during the day before lockdown?" I asked, having flashbacks to some of their episodes in had watched this past few days.
"Normally, yes. But I think we can both agree that this location is different than our 'normal' locations." He looked at me and smiled. "And in a way we already did when we were setting up."
"Okay," I said hanging back a bit as he walked towards the creepy old house.
"You alright?" Nick asked stepping beside me.
"Ya, this is just never where I imagined I would be, you know?" I told him. I was partly surprised with myself because I had been terrified of this place ever since I was a kid. It was what had always haunted my nightmares when we left, and the woods as well. Although the reason for that I never understood until recently, when and incident had revealed what had been the cause of all of this.
"Well, you are. I think that shows how strong you are and how far you have come. It shows that your not letting your fear control you, but your controlling it," Nick said looking at the house, his eyes filled with curiosity.
"Yah, but honestly? I'm freaking out. It's more like facing my fear out of stupidity than controlling it. But I think I found my anchor in all of it," I finally said aloud.
"And what's that?" he asked, but something told me he already knew.
"It sounds weird, but it almost feels like Zak was sent to me to be my anchor in all of this. Like God knew how much he would be able to help me with all of this, help me break free from this prison I have been trapped in for so long. Does that sound crazy?" I asked, partly concerned for my own mental health.
"Addy, I think that the reason you and Zak connect so well is because you are the same people in different situations. Zak's dreams are normally as calm as they have been. So he relates. Have you thought that maybe he's not just your anchor, but your his too?"
"No," I admit softly, astonished with this new perspective. "I guess I never did. But I also didn't know," I said trailing off. Of course I never knew. This entire time everything has been about me. "Nick, have I been selfish?"
"What?" Nick asked confused where this change had come from. "What do you mean?"
"This entire time that you all have been here, everything has been about me. I haven't even bothered to ask Zak about himself, and-"
"I'm going to stop you right there," Nick said interrupting me. "We both know that the only reason 'everything' has been about you is because of the situation. Even if it wasn't as crazy, Zak still would have made everything about you because that's how he is during an investigation. So don't think for a second that it's your fault he hasn't talked about himself."
"Okay, well after I'm going to make a point to learn more about him," I said firmly.
"That's going to be between you and Zak. I won't have a part, let alone a say in it," Nick said holding his hands up making me laugh a bit.
Zak was ready to go. Billy, Aaron, and Nick all had cameras on them and Jay was going to be staying in the van at base keeping an eye on everything through the monitors. They had about eight x-cameras set up today cover my old big creepy house.
"Hey, Addy. Anytime you don't feel like you can stay in there, feel free to join me here at base camp, okay?" Jay said before we were going to enter the house
"Thanks, Jay. I think I have this," I said chuckling nervously.
Soon I found Zak's hand in mine and he squeezed it. "We have her," he said to Jay, as if he needed to be reassured for some reason. Jay simply shook his head indicating that he understood.
"Okay, well are we ready to be locked in?" Aaron asked.
"Well, Aaron we can't really get locked in because there is no front door," Billy said slapping him on the shoulder.
"Well I think you know what I meant, Billy. Man I miss the old fashioned lockdowns," Aaron said sighing. I couldn't help but laugh a little because the way he said it sounded like he had a long lost love or something.
"Okay, well lets just get this started," I said pulling Zak behind me and towards the house.
"Addy?" Zak asked stopping making me stop as well.
"Yes, Zak?"
"Don't you want a camera so you can see?" He asked partly amused. "We investigate in the dark, or have you not paid attention to a single episode?" he said teasing me.
"Yes, I have. And it's different watching it than being there. Sorry I forgot," I said giving some playful attitude. I tried to act serious but they all seemed to see right through it, giving me smug looks. "Fine, I'll take the damn camera," I said as we all started to laugh a bit. There was nothing like a bit of humor to lighten up a dark investigation.
Everything had finally been straightened out, and I had my camera and that had shown me how to use it. It wasn't very complicated, so that was good. I let Zak lead the way in and we we're followed by the guys. I wouldn't be surprised if Zak decided to put what had just happened in the episode, probably to show that there is humor in the show as well to help lighten our spirits. I mean when watching the show, I found all the humor in the special effects that they had in it.
It was completely dark inside despite there being some light outside, and the feeling was off. But then again, it always has been. I had my hands gripped on the camera, but made sure I kept Zak's camera, the little screen that lit up, in sight. My camera probably wouldn't be helpful to the investigation much, so I doubt that they will show any of my camera feed.
I tripped over a few fallen boards as I tried to keep up with Zak, which resulted in me ending up a bit farther behind him every time. However, Aaron and Billy made sure to stay behind me so that I wouldn't end up by myself.
Even though I wasn't as afraid anymore, the house still creeped me out. It was oddly quite and dark only making me regret coming here a little bit. I immediately slapped myself mentally for even thinking that. The more I was afraid, the better control that I would ultimately allow it to have over me.
"We have heard that you like to scare people here," Zak said out loud as we continued farther into the house. "Why don't you try and scare us?" I could hear strain in his voice, as if he was holding back from something he wanted to say.
I was partly relieved because that meant that he was being serious about this, just like I asked him to. But what if that meant I was still showing some kind of fear? Because technically I am, I'm afraid of what it would do if Zak, or the rest of them were to provoke it.
"Zak, just say what you have to," j said pointing my camera to the ground once again. "If you hold back, then that's showing fear, and I don't want it to be stronger because I'm afraid."
"Addy, are you sure?" Aaron asked from behind me. "Provoking it might make things worse than it could be."
"I would think that it would equal out to how bad it would be if we showed fear. I'd rather not be the thing that gives it more power or control. So yes, I'm sure," I said with absolute certainty.
Hey guys. Sorry if this chapter is crappy. I was try to get it done before I head into school in a few minutes. It's hard to work on the story while getting a bunch of school work, and other things, but I'm doing my best. Love you guys, hope you enjoyed! Please vote and comment!
