I think my heart stopped when I heard Oliver say Missy and Logan in the same sentence. My brain immediately started to think back to that night. Logan called me when he got home. I clearly remember him calling because I was trying to be quiet so I wouldn’t wake Juliette up. I can’t remember anything seeming off that night though. I don’t remember Logan acting weird.
I stopped thinking long enough to hide myself behind the soda machine when they walked by with their food. They were heading to their table, where I saw Blake and Harper already sitting. I looked down to the other end of the table and saw a bunch of the football players, my eyes stopped when I saw Logan. I just stared; I didn’t know if I could believe what Oliver had heard. It was probably only a rumor. But rumors usually are half true; I was definitely going to look into this.
I got back in the lunch line and got my sandwich quickly even though I wasn’t really hungry anymore. As I was walking towards the table, Juliette was waving me over. I think she was trying to tell me to hurry up but she just looked really funny doing so.
Grayson was pulling her arm, “Juliette! Will you please stop acting like a crazy woman?” he was shouting now.
I sat down at the table across from Juliette and next to Logan. I turned to Logan, “Any idea what’s going on?” I asked curiously.
“You are never going to guess who has a date this weekend! To Chase’s party. Please Syd, guess.” Juliette was sitting now, but still slightly jumping out of her seat from excitement.
I shrugged and smiled sweetly, “Maybe you do,” I said with a question laced in my voice.
She laughed and shook her head, “Nope! Grayson does! Can you believe our little baby is growing up? He’s actually taking a girl to the party.” I couldn’t help but laugh too. Grayson was very good-looking but a little dorky. And Grayson never went on dates. He always said dates led to relationships and relationships were just too complicated for him.
I smiled and nodded at him. “Oh really? Mr. it’s too complicated has a date?” I asked jokingly.
“It really isn’t a big deal. It’s only two people going in the same car to the same party. And those two people might dance together.” He shrugged. He didn’t want this to be a big deal but Juliette wasn’t really helping his case.
I started to say, “Yeah, you’re ri-“
Juliette cut in quickly, “Sydney Harris, don’t you dare agree with him! Of course it’s a big deal”
Logan must have stopped talking about football plays with the team long enough to start listening to our conversations. “What’s a big deal?” He asked.
Grayson quickly began before Juliette had a chance; “I’m taking Missy to Chase’s party this weekend.” My jaw dropped as a watched Logan and Grayson bump fist.
I coughed loudly as a watched some of Logan’s other friends bump Grayson’s fist too, “Missy? You mean Missy Greene?” I asked shocked.
