I’ve been sitting crisscrossed on Grayson’s large bed with him and Juliette since we left school when the teachers pulled Chase away from Logan before they could even begin fighting. The commotion of an almost fight between two star students and athletes gave us an opening at skipping the rest of the day.
I was relieved that neither Chase nor Logan got a punch in. I was also relieved that Grayson and Juliette pulled me out of the middle of the commotion and out a side door. I don’t think I could have continued through the day without breaking down and I knew I couldn’t do that at school.
I haven’t broke down though, not yet.
Juliette keeps asking me if I’m okay. Grayson keeps looking at me like I’m glass and will break any minute now. Grayson is a great best friend but when it comes to emotional stuff he usually lets Juliette handle it.
“So, I texted Missy and told her I’m not picking her up for the party,” Grayson told us quietly.
“Aw, you didn’t have to do that,” I told him. I felt bad. I wasn’t sure if Grayson actually had a crush on her or just wanted to hook up with her at the end of the night.
He shook his head and smiled at me, “Of course I did, Syd. You’ve been my best friend forever.”
Juliette announced, “And if he kept that stupid date with the slut, I would have personally ruined her night and whatever trashy outfit she put together.” Juliette has always had a feisty attitude, it was one of the reasons I loved her.
“Harsh Jules,” Grayson joked, laughing at her.
I couldn’t help but laugh a little too, “Yeah, ruining her night is one thing but her outfit. You’re just plain old cruel.”
Juliette shrugged her shoulders and laughed, “She deserves a lot worse then just that and you both know it.” Juliette also had a real mean side. Usually she was all smiles and laughs, super nice to everyone, but if you messed with someone she loved you better be prepared to pay.
Once in elementary school an older kid pushed Grayson into the mud outside in the playfield and Juliette not only had the older kid suspended she also pushed him back. When the older kid tried to get up and out of the mud, Juliette stepped on his hand. I can still remember the snapping sound.
Grayson was shaking his head again, “No, Juliette. Don’t do anything stupid. You could get away with pranks in elementary school and middle school but this is high school. And you’re also a senior you’re supposed to be setting a good example.”
Juliette smiled, “I will be setting an example. I will teach everyone that you don’t mess with me or anyone I love. And also, you don’t sleep with another girl’s boyfriend.” Juliette’s voice had turned cold by the time she stopped talking.
I groaned, “Jules, really you don’t need to do anything to Missy for me. Missy has already texted me a dozen times telling me how sorry she is and how drunk she was that night.”
“I don’t care if she was drunk! She slept with Logan. Everyone knows Logan is dating you. You don’t need to be sober to remember that.” I hadn’t seen Juliette this angry in a long time. She reminded me of myself earlier but actually a lot worse.
“Was,” I corrected her softly, “He was dating me.”
Grayson had gotten off his bed that we were all sitting on together. He paced around his room, “Why don’t we go after Logan?” He asked.
Juliette looked at Grayson shocked. Grayson continued, “I mean, yeah Missy did something wrong too. But Sydney is right, Missy has been texting her all day apologizing. Missy feels bad. Logan doesn’t though. Logan is just upset about losing Syd. He isn’t upset that he slept with Missy.”
