The rest of the week passed by slowly. Chase and I weren't talking, and were avoiding each other as much as possible. I heard that Mike was out of the hospital and he hadn't mentioned my name at all. At least that was one thing I could be thankful for. I was trying hard to focus on school but my mind was always on other things. I couldn't wait for it to be the end of the day and the start of another weekend. I needed to apologize to Mike.
Unfortunately, at the end of the day Logan caught up to me before I could leave school. "Could we talk?" he asked.
I nodded and we sat down on a bench together. It did feel weird to be close to him again. It felt like a lifetime ago that we were a couple, so much has happened since we broke up. "What's up?"
"I miss you, and I miss us," he stated, his eyes looked sad.
I shook my head, "Logan, I can't. I don't want to go there again."
"Why not? I know I made a huge mistake. I would never cheat on you again. I love you Syd," he confessed.
"There's too much going on, too much has happened Logan."
"You mean Chase happened," I could see an anger in his eyes that I was not familiar with. I had seen Logan mad and upset before, but this anger felt different. It felt dangerous.
I was careful when choosing my words next, "No, Chase did not happen. There's nothing going on with Chase and I; we're just friends."
"You've been getting a lot closer to him Sydney. And I saw you two at the party, you were all over each other. I know you're a good liar, but even you can't deny that," he told me.
"The party was just some fun, it meant nothing to either of us," I saw Chase and Blake walking over to us, "Blake is here though, I have to go Logan. I'm really sorry."
He grabbed my arm to stop me from leaving, "I can't lose you Sydney," he whispered before Chase and Blake made their way over to us.
"Everything okay here?" Blake asked, his eyes were on Logan's grip of my arm.
I stepped away, "Yeah, we were just talking. Everything is fine." But I wasn't quite sure that was the truth; nothing felt fine right now.
Logan let us leave without any more disruptions, which I was thankful for.
"You shouldn't let him put his hands on you anymore," Chase told me as we were walking towards the parking lot.
I nodded in response. The last thing I wanted to do was to start an argument with Chase. We have had enough of those recently. I planned on relaxing this weekend. Well after I apologized to Mike first.
"Are you still heading home with Chase?" I asked Blake as I fished for the car keys in my bag.
"Yeah. You'll be fine going home on your own?" he asked me in return.
I nodded, "I'm just dropping off my stuff then I planned on heading over to Grayson's with Juliette."
"I'll see you later then," he told me before getting into Chase's car. Chase was looking at my curiously, and I once again felt like he could see right through me.
"Be careful this weekend," he told me before getting into his own car and driving off.
He didn't wait for a response, which I was grateful for. I knew if I had to lie to him anymore then he would figure out the truth. Somehow we were both always after the truth, even if they were different truths.
