Anne's POV

The bell rang after second period. It was finally break time. I've never really liked geometry as much as English for example. It just never really came to me. I walked out of the math classroom and started to make my way to my locker. I met eyes with Jerry Baynard. He smiled at me and waved and I did the same.

"Hi!" I smiled as I backed up towards my locker, not before backing up into another person.

"I'm so sorry!" I apologized as I turned around, coming face-to-face with no one other than Josie Pye.

"Excuse me?" she said as she glared at me. She recognized me immediately and made a disgusted face at me.

When I first moved to Avonlea, my best friend, Diana Berry showed me around the school. I was absolutely excited and couldn't stop talking about my classes and new friends that were in Diana's group. Josie Pye, Tillie, Jane and Ruby all were distant from me at first. Ruby liked this weird boy who followed me around named Gilbert Blythe and Josie dated him anyways. She was always mad about that. When Josie suggested we play spin the bottle, I had to kiss Gilbert Blythe.

The bottle spun round and round until I looked at who it landed on. Gilbert Blythe. Josie's eyes widened - so did Ruby's. Diana smiled widely.

"Don't worry Josie, I can spin again. I am not a Gilbert Blythe fan."

I lied.

"It's okay. The bottle has chosen," Gilbert smirked playfully.

I smiled a small smile and shrugged in Josie's direction. Gilbert and I leaned in until the gap between us closed. Josie gasped loudly.

Ever since that day, Josie hated me more than she hated me the first day I met her. Ruby stopped being friends with her and joined Diana and I. She soon got over Gilbert and developed a crush on some other ridiculous boy.

Josie laughed out loud. "Aww, I'm glad to see you wore your hair down today. It looks even more ugly like this."

I sighed until I heard voice come from behind me. "I think Anne's hair is absolutely beautiful."

I turned around to be met with the smile of Diana as she stood next to me.

Josie glared at us. Gilbert Blythe walked down the hall and when he finally got to Josie, wrapped her in a hug from behind.

"Hey," he smiled.

"Hi," Josie said, still glaring at us.

"What's up?"

"Nothing much. Just commenting on Anne of Green Gable's horrible red hair - who I don't want to be caught standing near. Bye."

She automatically turned and walked away from both Gilbert and us.

"I'll go, um, check on her," Gilbert smiled as he looked at my hair.

"You do that," I shot back as Gilbert winked, following Josie to whichever cave she lived in.

When school finally got out, you could probably tell why I was relieved.

I've loved Avonlea since the first time Matthew picked me up from the orphanage. The White Way of Delight and the Lake of Shining Waters are absolutely divine and the bow that Marilla gave me is one of the best things I've ever received. But, my most prized possessions are in this box that had once held a gift from Matthew. Five letters. All to the boys I've had a crush on throughout the span of the two years I've been in Avonlea.
