Arielle Evans

Harry called and texted a few times a day for the first few weeks, but after that, I was lucky if I got a call once a month. He told me he would fly out for prom, but I am not actually sure he will deliver on that promise since he hasn't made contact with me since he said it.

Prom is tomorrow.

Mason wanted to take me, but Harry had offered to come here first, so I denied Mason. In case you are wondering, we are still on that in-between stage, although it has been three months since Harry and I split.

I dial Harry's number for the thirteenth time today, but as usual, it goes straight to voicemail. I roll my eyes and grab my schoolbag, yelling a goodbye to my mother before I run to the bus stop. I climb on just as Anne is about to shut the doors, and she smiles at me as I take my seat behind her.

"Well, hello there." A husky voice says, sitting down next to me. I look up in fright, recognizing the voice instantly.

"Kevin." I squeak, suddenly terrified, although it has been months since he even came near me.

"Long time no see, Mermaid." Kevin smirks. I shrink down in the seat, bad memories coming back with the all too familiar nickname.

"Mmhmm." I mumble incoherently. "Are you and Chelsea still together?"

"Why would you care?" he hisses, shifting closer to me so that I am pressed up against the window. Anne glances at us in the rearview mirror, but Kevin quickly adjusts his position to where it looks like we are having a normal conversation, so her gaze returns to the road. "But since you were wondering, we are still together."

"Really? I haven't seen her in a while." I squeak, trying to divert his attention from me.

"She moved to Lincoln High." Kevin rolls his eyes. "She'll be at prom tomorrow, however. I doubt you and your pathetic little self will be coming, though, considering no one in their right mind would go with a nerd like you. How sad for poor little Arielle. Boo hoo." I resist the urge to yell that Harry is flying from London just to come with me, but only because I don't know for sure myself whether or not he is coming. "I'll bet Richards wouldn't even go with you."

"Well, at least he tried." I mutter under my breath, and Kevin lifts an eyebrow, looking amused.

"What do you mean, 'he tried'?" Kevin asks.

"Nothing." I reply quickly. Kevin is about to say something, but he is cut off by another familiar voice, this time one that I am actually happy to hear.

"Kevin. Harassing girls again, I see? Get a life already, mate." Mason snaps.

Kevin smirks. "I was just having a friendly conversation with Arielle, Mason. You don't have to get all worked up over your petty nerd of a girlfriend."

"Don't call her that." Mason fumes, yanking Kevin up from the seat by the collar of his shirt.

"Whoa, whoa, calm down, mate." Kevin mocks, and Mason pins him against the bus doors, where finally, Kevin starts to look a little frightened. "Alright, alright. I'm going." Kevin says hastily, squeezing out of Mason's grasp and returning to the back of the bus, where a few boys give him high-fives, and some of the girls give him disgusted eye-rolls.
