Bronchiolitis- Thaiyo

Thaiyo woke up feeling really sick. He hasn't been this sick before so he went downstairs where his friends are waiting and they are having breakfast.

Aidan: Hey dude.

Raphael: Morning sunshine.

Zoe: Morning- wait Thaiyo, are you feeling good? You don't look good.

Thaiyo: No I'm not feeling well.

Zoe: What happened?

Thaiyo: I couldn't breathe properly and I'm coughing.

Zoe: Sounds like Pneumonia, besides these respiratory symptoms what other symptoms have you been experiencing?

Thaiyo: A runny nose.

Zoe: Oh shit.

Raphael: What's going on?

Zoe: Thaiyo got respiratory illness I've never seen him this sick before. Usually he gets Pneumonia or Stomach flus. Maybe he doesn't have Pneumonia but something else?

Raphael: Like what?

Zoe: Bronchiolitis, we have to check each symptom in order to see if he has Bronchiolitis symptoms.

Thaiyo: (sneezes)

Raphael: Zoe grab the tissue!

Zoe: I've got a box.

Raphael: Thanks, here Sunshine.

Thaiyo: (blows nose)

Zoe: Raphael can you hand me the thermometer? Thaiyo's quite warm.

Raphael: Okay.

The oldest went to the bathroom to grab the thermometer and gave it to Zoe as she is checking the youngest's temperature.

Raphael: Zoe, here's your thermometer.

Zoe: Thanks man(checks Thaiyo's temperature) 39.6°C that's a fever.

Raphael: I think we should bring it down.

Zoe: Can you just take him to bed.

Raphael: Sure.

Raphael carried the sick boy to the kids bedroom and into his bed. He tucked him in and put a cool cloth on his forehead. Soon the sick boy started coughing and wheezing and the oldest was surprised.

Raphael: Guys, guys, guys come to the bedroom.

Aidan: What's going on?

Raphael: Thaiyo is wheezing, we have to take him to the hospital.

Yuto: Oh shoot I need to get Ashton.

The second oldest called Ashton and they went into the car and immediately went to the hospital. Ashton sprinted to the reception and checked Thaiyo in. When Thaiyo's name was called, everyone stood up and went to the doctor's office.

Dr. Lim: So I will do a chest X-Ray on Thaiyo so that we can check if he has Bronchiolitis.

Thaiyo: Will it hurt?

Dr. Lim: No we will just check your lungs.

Thaiyo: Okay.

When the doctor checked Thaiyo's lungs, it turned out to be Bronchiolitis.

Dr. Lim: So he got Bronchiolitis because if you look at the Bronchioles, there are some viruses blocking the airways. Healthy bronchioles are usually clear but looking at Thaiyo, he needs some medication.

Ashton: What are we prescribing him?

Dr. Lim: Oxygen therapy through the nose and some anti-virals. If you want to get the oxygen therapy please go to the the third floor.

Ashton: Okay, kids, let's go.

They followed the doctor to the elevator to the third floor where they will get the oxygen therapy for Thaiyo. He was scared and nervous, luckily his older siblings conforted him.

Dr. Azman(Male Doctor): Hello I'm doctor Ridhwan Azman you can call me Dr. Azman so one of the kids were prescribed oxygen therapy is it?

Ashton: Yeah it's Thaiyo.

Dr. Azman: So what have you got?

Thaiyo: Bronchiolitis.

Dr. Azman: So you've got Bronchiolitis right?

Thaiyo: Yup.

Dr. Azman: Okay, just wait here I'll be back.

Zoe: Where is he going?

Raphael: Dunno.

Dr. Azman: I'm back so this breathing tube through the nose can treat Bronchiolitis.

Zoe: I've heard of it though, we have that at home but it's filled with your booger Raphael so we will not use it.

Raphael: Shit you're embarrassing me.

Zoe: Also it won't help Thaiyo because he already got snot.

Dr. Azman: Woah woah woah kids can you guys stop fighting.

Zoe: Sorry.

Raphael: Yeah we're sorry.

Dr. Azman: So I will put this on the young boy and then we're good to go. Also while wearing it, I recommend him not moving around too much and stay in bed-

Raphael: 🎵All day save your breath, you can talk at me but I'm not listening🎵

Zoe: Don't sing now.

Raphael: Sorry.

Dr. Azman: So he has to stay in bed during recovery and when he needs to take a shower, he has to take it off and put it back on again when he is finished getting changed. But since he has a fever he doesn't need to take a shower.

Raphael: Does he need us? He is clingy when he's sick.

Dr. Azman: Well if he wants to but since you guys are still children I'm afraid you should keep away from him.

Zoe: But we're going to turn 13 while Raphael's already 13.

Dr. Azman: I know but not just children but also teenagers.

Zoe: Oh yeah.

Thaiyo: But I want to stay with my friends.

Dr. Azman: (sighs) Fine, you guys can be with him, you can go now.

Ashton: Thanks doctor.

Thaiyo has to be on oxygen at home during recovery until he is finally allowed out of bed and can play around again. He is happy when his Bronchiolitis is gone.
