Recap (you don't have to read, just a refresher):
Max panics and runs out of Joey's house after they break apart from the kiss. Joey then runs out, chasing after her. He tries multiple times to get her to tell him why she ran out so fast, but she refuses to answer him, let alone look at him. Joey gets angry and punches a tree nearby, hurting his wrist. He turns to face Max, who had now run into the middle of the road, while it is pouring rain outside. He turns around to start yelling back but realizes that a car was coming. He runs out in front and pushes Max out of the way, causing him to get hit. He goes in the hospital and a few days later, Max and Tatum leave LA to go back home. She tells Joey to open the note when she texts him.
[A/N (kinda); btw Max and Tatum stayed two weeks with them, yes it's unrealistic, but it works, right? This takes place when Max gets back home. And yeah, they fell in love fast but like love at first sight so oops. Deal wit it yo. (I literally don't know what is wrong with me right now-- or ever...) end authors note or whatever the hell this even is now.]
[Pssst: This is a featured LONG chapter, maybe even four pages, five at the most? We will see]

{Joey's POV} (Cont.)
I have been sitting on my couch staring at my phone for 2 hours and I stil haven't gotten one single text from Max. I was tapping my foot rapidly and I set my chin in my hands, glancing over to the letter next to Casey. I gave it to her as soon as I saw Max exit my house so I wouldn't let my head get to me and try to open it. Trust me, that's happened before.
I was told to wait to open my college letter that was holding the decision of the professors at the best college in the entire city. My mom was out at the time and she wanted to be there when I opened it. To be completely honest, that decision to open it was the worst decision of my life. Not because my mom wasn't there to witness it, it was because they declined my application.
Now that college isn't called Emerson, it's called the bitch-ass college.
"Aye. Stop tapping your foot, Joey. It's driving me crazy." Casey snapped slightly, looking to me. I quietly apologized to her and set my foot flat onto the wooden floor. It was a few more minutes before I saw my phone light up. I grabbed it off the table and read what it said on the screen.
New Text Message From: My Baaaeeeeee <3
Wait- I didn't save her name as that. I furrowed my eyebrows and remembered that I lent my phone to Max one time when hers died because she needed to look something up. And she must have changed it afterwards, just as a joke. It had to be then,
I'm really protective over my baby and I never let anyone touch it unless I can really, truly trust them. I mean, what am I gonna do with a person I don't trust? Not give them my phone, that's for sure.
I opened the message and scanned the words, reading each one slowly. Each word crushed my heart, making it so compact I couldn't breathe. I mean yeah, all she did was fly back home to Michigan, but that isn't where I am and it hurts me to think that the girl I literally fell in love with right as I spotted her isn't next to my side anymore. [A/N: woah, that made it sound like she died. Trust me, she didn't.]
I sighed and replied back, I miss you alreadyyyy. I can open the letter now?
"Was that her?" Casey asked, not looking up from her phone. She still had the letter lodged between her butt and the bottom cushion of the rolling chair she was sitting sideways in and I just wanted to push her over so I could open it.
