He should have confessed when he had the chance, how could he have been beaten to it?
Makoto and Kishi started dating. It tore Haruka apart to see their linked hands, the gazes they gave eachother. But on the outside, he remained composed. Hiding his feelings so well even Makoto couldn't pry in to the depths of his mind and figure out how he was coping.
Haruka slowly spent more time in the pool, the bathtub, alone at the beach when Makoto was on a date, just trying to pull himself together for the sake of his friend. It only took a week for Rei to notice when Haru cringed at Makoto's tales of Kishi's glorry, for Nagisa to see his duller-than-usual mood when Makoto was with his boyfriend for lunch. And they watched him intently whenever Makoto was around.
It was early morning. Haruka was submerged in the bath, blowing air through his nose and watching the bubbles rize to the surface. He was barely aware of the door opening, the sound muffled. And then large hands broke the peaceful waters and grabbed his shoulders, nearly wrenching him upward.
"What the-" Haruka started, he looked up at Makoto's worried expression in confusion. "Why'd you do that?"
"I couldn't see you at first, and I got scared, and then when I noticed you just lying there I thought-" He broke off, his expression more relaxed. "It's nothing, sorry Haru-chan"
"Cut it out with the chan." Haru snorted into the water.
Makoto smiled, causing Haru's face to heat up. He turned away, sinking down further. Makoto was worried about him... Haruka smiled a little, he hadn't lost him yet.
"Let's go, before we're late." The giant offered his hand.
Taking it, Haruka alowed himself to be pulled out of the bath. He wanted to keep holding his hand, all the way to school. But the brunette let go as soon as he was out. Haruka gazed at his hand, the warmth of the other's fading. He clenched his fist and went to get dressed, skipping his makerel breakfast to try beating Kishi to school. He wanted Makoto to himself today, at least until they got to class.
The walk to school was silent. Haruka welcomed silence, but not when it was disturbed by the occasional buz from Makoto's phone. After the fifth time, he started to get annoyed. "Aren't you gonna answer?" He asked, sounding a little harsher than he intended.
"But that would be rude..." Makoto gave him a smile, his face lighting up.
Haruka's breath hitched, he could tell it wasn't one of his more genuine smiles, though it still contained truth. When the giant looked away, his face fell somewhat, he defidentally wanted to answer that phone. Haruka sighed, as much as it pained him, he didn't want Makoto to be sad.
"It's ok, answer it."
"Are you sure?" Makoto looked over at him with surprise, but he couldn't see those farmiliar blue eyes, as Haru had looked away, not wanting the taller boy to read how much he didn't mean his words.
Still, he nodded. It tore Haruka apart to see Makoto's overjoyed face as he flipped open the phone and called Kishi back.
The walk was no longer quiet. It was filled with Makoto's happy chatter.
Directed at the wrong guy.
A/N: sorry it was short, I have some big ideas but nothing to fill up the spaces and every-day things that need to happen... Any ideas?
