Mason wasn't there when I woke up the next morning and I couldn't help but feel a sliver of hurt. Well no one was there actually, but he was the one I wanted here. I know I should be mad at him, but I just got kidnapped again and escaped so I'm thinking about my priorities. Priority one which is I need some serious comforting.
Sitting in this room has me going crazy trying not to think about the past few days. Was it even days? Hours maybe? Or was it weeks? I don't even know what day it is. My jumbled mess of thought process is interrupted by the Detective.
"Hello Scarlett, how are you feeling.?" Concern taints his voice.
"Like I just escaped a maniac and walked over a hundred miles in scorching heat dehydrated and survived, " I snort and he lets out a gruff short chuckle.
"I'm supposed to come in and take your statement but I can wait if you need time."
"Since when do you care about me needing time to talk about that crap?" I say narrowing my eyes at him.
"Since you got yourself kidnapped for a second time," he snorts.
"Yes because I totally went up to him with my hands in the air and said take me again please," I roll my eyes secretly relieved to be able to joke about it. I guess saving yourself makes all that kinda tiny. "I feel fine."
"Alright so start with the night of October 31st," he says getting out a recording device.
"I thought you were supposed to write this stuff down?"
"Recording is easier and I can get everything."
"Well why don't you use your phone then?"
"Are you stalling Scarlett? If you're really not up for this I can wait."
"Oh... uh yeah right... I'm good, hmmm... the night of Halloween," I stumble across my words realizing how wrong I was to think this would be easy, "we, Mason and I, played games all day but Mason said that he was gonna find something else to play since we'd worn out the other things. He was in the attic when the lights went out. I thought it was some kind of stupid Halloween prank you know? Well maybe I had just hoped it was."
"What happened next?"
"I yelled up at Mason but uh then I heard a floorboard creak and realized it wasn't Mason. I was gonna move slowly from the couch but I was um I was too late." I say looking at my hands. He stays silent just waiting for me to get my bearings and continue.
"He whispered in my ear 'I told you I'd see you.' I screamed for Mason then he covered my mouth and dragged me off the couch backwards."
I hear the chair squeak and glance up to see him leaning forward.
"I was kicking and s-scratching, I tried to get free but he was too s-strong!" I cry. I jump as I feel a hand on my shoulder.
"You don't have to continue Scarlett," he says looking concerned. I wipe the tears away and continue, pretending Mason is holding my hand. I tell the Detective everything only leaving out the little bit about him in the paperwork seeing as it wasn't relevant. When he leaves I let go of my facade of strength and sob, still wondering where Mason is.
