My eyes flutter open, quickly squinting shut at the abundance of light. The dryness in my mouth finally becomes important now that the darkness was gone. I try to open my eyes again and see I'm in a white hospital room. I see a cup of water next to me. Someone stops me.when I go to reach for it.
"You need to take it slow, your body is recovering you've had no nutrients for 3 weeks. If I hadn't found you when I did you wouldn't have made it," the gruff soothing voice from my memory says. Grabbing the cup an extremely attractive black haired man softly lifts me into a sitting position, helping me to drink. I start to gulp the water down, but he cautions me to slow down so I don't make myself sick. Once he puts the cup back and sits down I suddenly become overwhelmed. Hugging my knees to my chest I scream out sobs filled with the terror I've been though. I hear nurses rushing around me but I can't calm down. The panic filling me all over again, screams turning into hyperventilating breaths. Two hands gently pull my face upwards until I'm staring into warm caramel colored eyes.
"Just breathe," he murmurs over and over again until I've calmed down. I throw my arms around him suddenly and he wraps his around me comfortingly.
"Thank you," I mumble, crying silent tears into his shoulder.
"What is going on here?" I jump gripping tighter to my savior. I look around and notice the nurses have gone, but my boyfriend is standing in the doorway. He looks shocked with a bouquet of lilies hanging limply at his side. Suddenly his expression turns viscous.
"Who the hell are you?" He yells. The man gently lays me back down and turns to Joseph, giving him a stern look.
"My name is Mason, I'm the one who found Scarlett who is sitting in a hospital bed terrified out of her mind and you are not helping matters," he says softly still managing to sound angry. Joseph looks at me his face turning soft.
"Oh God, I'm sorry baby," he comes close reaching to touch my cheek but I flinch away. His expression falls, "I'm going to tell your family that you're awake." I look away sadly as he walks out.
"It's alright sweetheart," Mason murmurs. "Why don't you rest for a bit and I'll tell your family to come in later." I lay back and nod my head, closing my eyes as he pulls the covers up.
