Zinnia opened her eyes to the combined smell of trash, food, and morning breath. She groaned and rolls over, away from Nick and sat up. Nick was still asleep. The early morning sounds of the town calmed Zinnia as she listened to the birds, the yells, and the smell of food being prepared for breakfast. Her stomach growled, startling Nick awake.

"Hungry?" He smirked at her.

"Shut up." She snapped at him, standing up and brushing herself off. He just smiles.

"No one's gonna let us into their restaurant smelling like this." He gestured at the two of them, covered in blood and grime.

"Well, then how are we going to eat?" Zinnia flopped back onto the floor.

"We steal." Nick answered.

"WHAT!?"

"Don't look so surprised." Nick sauntered up to the edge of the alleyway, eyeing up the food stalls. She followed him timidly to and glanced in the direction of the food stall that Nick was eyeing up. The stall was frying eggs and bacon, and the smell was wafting in her direction. Zinnia's stomach growled again, louder this time.

"Do you want me to get some for you?" Nick smirks. Zinnia sighed in response.

"Fine."

Nick nodded at her and made his way to the stall. Lurking by while the shopkeeper yelled out orders. The shopkeeper places an order down on the table and Nick subtly grabbed it and stepped away casually, delivering it to Zinnia. He then made his way to another stall, this time selling toast and baked beans. He repeats the same process as before, walking away, unnoticed-

"Oi! Get back 'ere!" The potbellied shopkeeper yelled. Nick broke into a run, grabbing Zinnia on her way past, spilling all of her food.

"I wasn't done yet!" Zinnia protested.

"We'll get something later," Nick promised, still sprinting. "For now, just run." Zinnia dropped her plate and sprinted alongside Nick until he pulled her into a shop. The shop was quiet and had fabrics and ribbons everywhere, organized by colours. A woman stepped out of a curtained room and looked us up and down.

"And... you are?" She sneered down at the two children.

"Nathan and Zoe Winter. Brother and sister." Nick replied, not missing a beat.

"Yes, and can I help you?"

"Actually, we would like a place to clean off."

"Well, I suppose we can't have children walking around like pigs." She nearly spat.

She led the kids to the back of the shop, where she had a small living space set up. She gestured to a tiny door in the corner.

"Ladies first." Nick bowed to Zinnia, gesturing at the door.

"Thank you, Nathan." She smiled, making her way to the door. She slipped in and closed the door behind her.

The room consisted of a shower, a toilet, and a sink. There was a small cabinet which contained five towels and a bar of soap. She slammed the cupboard shut and turned on the shower, trying to drown out her pressing thoughts.
