For Years to Come - Shunsui Kyoraku One Shot

A sake bottle was thrown haphazardly from the rooftop of the eighth divisions captain quarters and you knew exactly who it had to be, Captain Shunsui. You easily avoided the bottle and the captain peaked over to see who was the helpless soul he had tried to hit with a sake bottle. When his eyes landed on your form a small shudder ran down his spine as captain of squad three you were quiet and rather intimidating.

"Captain, I didn't mean to throw that. Forgive me?" He took his hat off and pressed it to his chest.

"You shouldn't be drinking this early, Captain." You said stepping on the shards of glass making them crunch loudly.

"Ah, relax there's never anything to do this early it's the perfect time!" He waved you off with a cheesy smile on his face.

"Really, I do recall the paperwork I was handed when I came in as well as evaluations that needed doing." With a quick, precise motion you now stood next to him.

"Lieutenant Nanao is on her way over best get inside before she gets here, no?" You placed your hand on his shoulder and whispered this into his ear before leaving on your way back to your own divisions barracks to get your own work done. You could hear them argue now and it made you laugh. You always made your rounds in the morning to see how the other captains were doing and giving the lower members of each squad some encouragement.

As you left the captain behind you it was another strange way each division had greeted you, from candy to promise of a place and an experiment you chuckled to yourself thinking about them. Jushiro was far too kind and then there was Mayuri and Kenpachi who were far off in the other direction. You had a morning spar with Kenpachi, leaving before he had the chance to really hurt you(which is much easier then it seems as he has no sense of direction.) Out of all of the captains it was Shunsui and Jushiro that you enjoyed meeting with the most, they were two of your closest friends after all. Having graduated so many years ago with them into a position as captain made it a special moment to you and both men.

"Good morning, Captain!" Lieutenant Izuru Kira, a sweet and hardworking man with a good sense of humour. A gem to have around on long boring days stuck inside doing reports and signing forms.

"Good morning, Lieutenant. Already finished with the paperwork?" He scratched his head sheepishly.

"Um, no, but I wanted to make the rounds to see how the squads coming along." You gave him a smile with a brief nod.

"Ah, no worries now." You placed a hand on his shoulder.

"You know where I'll be when you're done." You said as you walked into the captains quarters of squad three.

Hours passed, many signatures and one sore forearm later it was dark now. Many days now remained uneventful but to you it was a blessing and a curse. No foes to test your strength on but also no foes to cause unnecessary damages. With a stretch and a goodbye to Kira you walked down each division's courtyard in order to reach your home. As you walked by most of the squad members had went in for the evening to sleep while others remained behind to talk. Then there was squad eight, it was a special place indeed.

"Watch out, Captain!" Nanao shouted down to you has a sake bottle came flying towards you but you had already expected this bottle and easily stepped away from it's landing space.

"Shunsui!" You shouted crossing your arms over your chest. You weren't mad, on the contrary you enjoyed his attention though you could do without the stray bottles being launched at you.

"Why hello there again! I do apologize, I have terrible aim. Hm?" He gave her a sly grin and she let one of her own creep onto her face as she jumped onto the roof with him.

"I'll keep him under control, Nanao you can go inside for the evening. I promise to get the rest of his work done as well, so rest easy tonight." You placed a reassuring hand on her head, which she didn't much care for but as she fixed her glasses she thanked you and left.

"Shunsui?" You turned your attention back towards the captain who was now laying on his back with his hat covering his face. There was no way he already passed out, was there? You shook your head and kneeled next to him.

"Hey, I know you're not asleep Shu-san." You whispered and in a quick motioned he pulled you on top of his lap very gently.

"SHUNSUI! This is no way to treat a fellow captain or a woman!" You snapped trying to move off of him.

"Oh? You like it rougher? I didn't know that, Darling." He grinned moving one hand to his hat so he could see your very red face.

"Shu-san there are gentler ways to ask me for affection and that is not one of them." For a moment the great flirt was made speechless before raising an eyebrow.

"You don't joke, what's the occasion?" He mused as you finally removed yourself from his body now comfortably sitting next to him on the roof.

"Sometimes I wondered what it would feel like to be someones everything, to be the person another would give their life for." You had a soft look on your face as you looked up at the sky of the Seireitei.

"Then I remember that I have so much more to worry about that love seems so childish to think about. I want it, we all need someone to love and when I think about the people in my life that I could see myself loving for as many long years as I may live." You smiled seeing him watching you.

"I only think of one person." You were positive of a few things and one of them happened to be your complete love for him.

"Hm, I couldn't think of a more poetic way to say it." You felt him shift up into a sitting position next to you pulling you into his warm side.

"It's a bit chilly, would you like to go inside?" He suggested and you gave him a shy side glance.

"Oh, is the great fearless captain of squad three getting shy?" He teased and in one motion you gave him a firm smack on the arm. He rubbed it gently as he fake pouted.

"Fine, but you better watch yourself." You gave him a smile as you jumped down and began walking into the building.

"And for years to come I will still be as in love with you as the day we met." He whispered to your disappearing form as he soon followed your path into his room.
