chapter viii - "i wasn't gonna actually break up with you but because of that comment maybe i will."
I slowly make my way down the stairs, my stomach full of dread for the oncoming conversation. I see Noah is sitting on the couch and I sit next to him. "Hey Kammie! I didn't know you were coming over," Noah exclaims. He looks excited until he sees the look on my face. "What's wrong?" he asks immediately.
"I, we need to talk," I tell him.
"Um, okay? About what?"
"Us."
"What do you mean?"
"Well Chloe is my best friend and she says she needs time to really process everything that's going on so she asked if we could, um," I pause. As much as I know I'm supposed to say "break up" or "take a break" I can't bring myself to say those words. "She wants us to, you know, slow things down," I say mentally swearing at myself.
"Oh, yeah of course," he says looking relieved. "I thought you were going to dump me or something. Then I wouldn't be able to see any more of those cute Wonder Woman underwear," he says smirking.
I slap him playfully as I groan. "First of all, they aren't underwear, and second, I wasn't actually gonna break up with you but for that comment maybe I will," I tell him laughing.
Noah and I sit in comfortable silence for a few seconds before he speaks up. "What exactly do you mean by 'slow down'?" he asks.
"Um, well. We can't really go on dates and stuff I guess. You should ask your sister about that," I say nervously.
"No dates?"
"Oh no, how will you ever survive?" I ask sarcastically.
"I know, I'll die without you," he says dramatically placing his hand over his heart.
I then start to laugh and he joins in. I look at his face, which is full of happiness, and hear his laugh which just fills the room with joy and I silently pray that this break or whatever the hell it is won't last long.
