chapter xi - "you're so sweet."
I spot Noah sitting in one of the chairs on his phone. He notices me walking towards him and stands up. I take his hand and ask, "Can we take a walk?"
We walk together in comfortable silence and make our way out of the hospital and out into the front where there is a little garden. We sit together on a bench and snuggle together, the days are getting cooler and the crisp wind of fall makes me shiver even with my sweatshirt. Noah puts his arm around me, pulling me closer. I take a deep breath. It's now or never.
"Justin almost dying really made me think about how short life is and I know that I have to tell you this because tomorrow, well, tomorrow it could be too late," I pause and turn to look at Noah's face. "I love you."
"I love you too," Noah says without a moment of hesitation. "You are beautiful inside and out. Can we make this, us, official? So no one, not my sister, not some random asshole at a party, or anyone else, can come between us."
"Yes," I answer.
"You're so amazing," Noah says stroking my cheek.
"You're so sweet," I tell him.
"I know," he answers, his tone cocky.
"Nevermind I take it back," I say with a laugh. "You're so annoying."
"But you love me."
"That doesn't make you any less annoying," I say with a laugh.
"But you do love me."
"Yes. Yes I do."
