Having installed my books at my locker again, I rush to first period English Literature. The corridors are empty and there is not even a single student in sight. My heart pounds loudly in sync with the echo of my footsteps. By backpack bounces behind my back together with my hair, which is pulled into a ponytail.
I turn the final coner and come face to face with The Monster. That is how Principal Cooper is known around the school.
I stop in my tracks and stare st him like a deer caught in the headlights.
"Why aren't you in class Miss Sanchez?" Principal Cooper asks frowning down at me.
"I-I went to the library...," I say trying to think up of something that can be a valid reason.
"Why would you be at the library until after the bell?" he asks pushing his huge pair of glasses up the bridge of his nose.
To retrieve my books! Why else!
"I was...," I pause still thinking of something to say.
My heart beats like crazy and I'm pretty sure that he hears every single beat.
He smirks like a five year old who punched another boy. He is about to say something, the magical words 'detention' ofcourse, when suddenly his phone rings. He pulls the device out of his pockets and stare at the screen horrified. He gulps loudly before swiping the screen to answer the call. Seeing The Monster scared of anyone is rare. Almost not possible. I try my hard not to laugh at him.
"Yes darling, sure.... No no not at all... Yes my love, sure..." Principal Cooper speaks to his phone still wearing a horrified expression.
He waves his hand gesturing me to go away and he walks down the corridor, his phone pressed to his ear with both his hands.
I dash to English Literature praying that there may not be anyone else along the way. I finally come upon the class and slowly peep inside through the little transparent glass. Mr. Mills, is in the process of handing out yesterday's homework essays.
I gulp down hard and slowly open the door. Instantly, the corridor file with Mr. Mills' voice booming around each silent corner. I hesitantly step in and close the door behind me, my heart beginning to pick up speed again.
Mr. Mills looks back at me to the sound of the door close. His brows forrow forming a frown.
"Miss Sanchez, you're late!" he states like I never realized it.
"I'm sorry Mr. Mills," I say very much aware of every pair of eyes that is watching me right now.
"This keeps happening every single day, and it is very irresponsible of you Miss Sanchez," he growls.
I cast my eyes to my feet not knowing what to say. I notice Rhea smirk, out of the corner of my eyes.
"Detention, Miss Sanchez!" he says almost bored of saying the exact same thing every single morning.
I nod my head and begin to walk towards my desk at the end of thee class when suddenly Rhea's hand shoots up in the air.
"She forgot to hand over her homework, Mr. Mills," she says sweetly.
Yeah. How else could she value all what happened behind the library today?
I spin around midway down the aisle to face Mr. Mills knowing what exactly he was going to say. He watches Rhea adoringly and turns to me.
