I walk towards the field, my head bent low, hoping that my hair could hide my face from everyone. It is five minutes to four and there was no text message from Mason after the one that I received at lunch.
"This is such a bad idea," Penny whispers in my ears.
"I seriously don't remember, but whose idea was it?" I ask sarcastically, leading the way to the bleachers and taking a seat.
Penny drops onto the seat beside me and gives a tight smile. I glare at her for putting me in this situation, but one look at her huge puppy-dog eyes an my glare vanishes into thin air. I sigh loud and clear an turn away from her.
The bleachers are filled and the air is thick with excitement. We, the Prestly Pumas are playing against the previous year's champions, the Franciscan Falcons. It is a tough game and everyone knows that this match is quite important to the Pumas, than any other game so far.
Penny and I wait for the game to begin, sunk in a roaring crowd. Penny points to Rhea in her cheerleading uniform, going along with a few drills with the other cheerleaders.
"What is she doing there?" Penny asks.
"That's Rhea. She's a cheerleader. What else should she be doing?"
"I thought that the whole school chased her away for breaking their dear Mason Young's heart."
Before I can remind Penny that Rhea too had her own 'gang', the bleachers rise with a deafening uproar. The Falcons make their way into the field following their mascot.
When the noise dims down, Rhea and her team begin to bounce their pom-poms here and there, and juggle them for what is quite famous as the Puma-Pounce.
The Pumas make their way into the field led by the mascot. Mason is the first to appear followed by Seth and the other players of the team.
"There he is!" Penny sings in a sing-song, which is barely audible through the loud chanting going on.
Rhea walks over to Mason with her million dollar smile but Mason's face scrunches up in disgust at the sight of her. It is quite evident that Rhea's smile is fake and her eyes are dripping with guilt.
Mason ignores Rhea's approach and continues forward, while Seth pulls Rhea in for a quick kiss. The bleachers explodes with a cheer for Seth and Rhea, while with all that commotion, Mason's eyes find mine.
Still lifeless and with no emotion passing through them at all, his eyes hold mine for a few seconds before he puts his helmet on.
"Do you know what's gonna happen next?" I ask Penny, shouting in her ear.
"Do you?" she shouts back.
I shake my head.
"Let's find out then!" Penny joins in on the loud cheer.
With a "Go Pumas" the team drifts into the field. The game runs smoothly, or so I believe, judging by the unending roar that has the bleachers in captivity.
Penny and I watch baffled, having no idea what the heck is happening.
"I think that the Falcons are winning!" Penny shouts.
Gosh!
The game looks like a raging war. Everyone is on their feet and the two coaches are practically pulling their hair off. Flags are sailing among the crowd and the noise intensifies with every ticking second.
"What's happening?" I shout in Penny's ear.
"The Falcons are going for a touch down!" she shrieks back.
