"I CAN'T BELIEVE I FORGOT TO WASH MY HAIR!"
Minatozaki Sana was officially in panic mode. First of all, the clock struck six which meant Baekhyun was due to arrive in half an hour. Secondly, her hair was looking way too greasy to look in any way presentable so it needed a deep cleanse. But could Sana shower in less than half an hour? She was about to find out.
Turned out that was a complete fail as once she emerged from the shower with a towel strung upon her dripping wet hair and baggy mickey mouse pajamas on, the doorbell rung. Placing on some fluffy slippers, she dashed quickly towards the door before her older brother — the extremely antisocial idiot sprawled on the living room couch watching movies — opened it and would expose her whole life to her classmate. Sana opened her door, smiling awkwardly when the slightly taller person in front of her stifled laughter.
"Bad time?" Baekhyun questioned in amusement, one eyebrow arched as he studied the towel atop her head. She bit her lip helplessly.
"N—no, it's fine. Come inside."
He followed her inside the small, three bedroom home Sana lived in her whole life. Memorabilia hung on the walls. Pictures of Sana as a baby and young girl, some with her brother, and the whole family together. One iconic picture was the four, her Mom's arms around Sana in a back hug and Dad grinning cheesily at the camera. They looked so happy, like a proper family. Obviously this so–called serenity didn't last to Sana's teenagehood where fiery arguments became a norm within these four walls.
She peered back, watching confusedly as Baekhyun's eyes lingered at the pictures, his facial expressions somewhat unreadable. To clear the awkwardness arising, she pulled a face.
"Such cringey photos, right?"
He immediately shook his head, "not at all, actually. My parents never did this with me, only with Mira."
"Why not?"
"Isn't it obvious?" He laughed a colorless, monotone sound which sounded more bitter than harmonious. "She's the cute daughter everyone wants. I'm just the teenage son."
Sana started feeling extremely uncomfortable and didn't want to delve into Baekhyun's possibly unstable life. Though it did reassure her: family issues weren't only exclusive in her household. Even the smartest and bubbly of people didn't lead perfect lives.
"Let's go into the kitchen," she diverted before directing him to her favorite place in the house. Since her parents, like his, worked long shifts until night, Sana learnt to appreciate and slowly become obsessed with utilizing ingredients to make magical products. From whipping eggs to mixing spices, the possibilities in that one room were endless.
She organized the room herself; all the spices were put in alphabetical order, she labelled every possible food item — a task she set herself weekly for her own discretion — and took a photo of every new thing she made and stuck every photo in a series of wooden pinboards hung up on one of the walls. In conclusion, baking and cooking was definitely Sana's comfort zone.
