Somehow, although he wasn't exactly sure when it had happened, walking home with Mingyu fell into Wonwoo's daily routine. In fact, it was the only part of the day he really looked forward to. Of course, this just sped up the inevitable. He was falling for Mingyu more every day. Wonwoo couldn't remember a time when he'd looked forward to something as much as he looked forward to his daily walk home with Mingyu.
"What's it about?" Mingyu asked, referring to the coded notebook pages that Wonwoo was currently reading over.
"Stuff," Wonwoo replied.
"Aw come on, you have to tell me, I'm your best friend!"Wonwoo shot him a mock-annoyed look, then said teasingly, "Soonyoung is my best friend."
Mingyu rolled his eyes. "Yeah I know, but Soonyoung is everyone's best friend so you have to have two."
"Who says that?"
"I do. What's your story about?"Well, Mingyu was nothing if not persistent and Wonwoo could tell that he wasn't going to give up this time. "It's about a world where everyone can do magic but the main character can't. So life sucks for him. But he meets this guy and shit happens so there."
Mingyu takes a moment to process. "Does he like this guy?""Platonically or like. . . Like like?"
"Like like.""Yes."
"Most of the time gay people write about gay characters. Are you gay?" Mingyu didn't seem to feel any shame about asking such personal questions so directly. If Wonwoo had been eating or drinking anything, he would have spit it out right about now.
"What, when did you get so interested in my life!? Jeez, such personal questions!"
"What, I was just asking," Mingyu said innocently. "Just answer."
"Yes, okay, why do you care?"
"Just interested."
"You're interested in my writing, too. What's so great about me? Oh right, I can tell you: nothing."
"Aw, come on, you're plenty interesting," Mingyu insisted. "All mysterious with your codes. Everything about you interests me!"
"Everything, huh?" Wonwoo scoffed. "Even my shoe size?"
"Well now I'm interested. Do you have a really weird shoe size or something? What's your shoe size?"
Wonwoo laughed. That was one of the great things about Mingyu. Before he met Mingyu, Wonwoo couldn't remember the last time he'd laughed. Now he did it on a nearly daily basis. But every laugh was slightly bittersweet. Why are you doing this to me? You're making it so hard. "I'm not telling you my shoe size," Wonwoo said. "It's not interesting."
"Everything about you is interesting to me. Absolutely everything." And it was true. Absolutely everything about Wonwoo fascinated Mingyu. And he didn't know why at that point, but he was already starting to fall for his friend. And Wonwoo was falling at this very moment. In more ways than one. And one of those ways was very bad. A signal of everything that was coming in his future. The last thing he remembered was Mingyu shouting his name before he hit the pavement and everything went dark.
