Chapter 8
We headed next door a few minutes after seven. My mom knocked on their door and when Alex opened the door she embraced my mom in a hug.
I saw Shane standing behind Alex when she opened the door. He resembled Brady in the obvious ways, but I could tell they were two totally different people. They both had dirty blonde hair, with bright blue eyes, yet Brady had much softer features. Shane had a way about him that made him seem serious, while Brady had a friendly way about him that just invited any person in. Even though they both were tall, all six foot three of them, they definitely were two different personalities and you could notice by just looking at them.
"How are you guys?" She asked
"We're good. How are you guys?" My mom asked
"We're really good. I'm personally happy that Shane is back, I don't know about my other two." She said, laughing.
We headed into the living room and I handed the brownies to Alex so she could put them on a serving plate.
She returned with a bottle of champagne.
"I thought we could all toast to this wonderful night and great new friends." Alex said
"Yeah! That sounds great. I'll help you pour." My mom replied
They poured all of us a glass and we raised our glasses.
"To friends!" Alex said
"To friends!" The rest of us replied
Alex then returned to the living room with the brownies and some cookies on a serving plate and placed them on the table.
"So, Shane do you like UNC?" My mom asked
"Yeah, the campus is so nice and all of my professors seem super helpful so far." He replied
"Nicole and Elliot are planning on going there next fall." Brady said
"You guys will love it. The campus feel is great and everyone is just so friendly, I've never seen anything like it." He replied
"I'm really excited to go on a campus visit soon to make sure I still like it as much as I did in the past." I said
"Oh, that's nice. When you all come down to make sure to let me know so I can show you the cool spots the tours don't show you." Shane replied
"I told them that when they go down we can go too. That way we can come to visit you." Alex said
"Then Brady can come down for a visit too." Shane said
"Yeah, I still have my eye on Georgia though." Brady said
"That's too far! I need all my babies close." Alex said as she patted Brady on the cheek.
"I know how you feel! I need these two as close as they can be so I can visit them." My mom replied
"Well I can't speak for Elliot, but you will see me at UNC if I get accepted." I said
"I'm with her! You'll see me there next year." Elliot said
We all finished our desserts and then we headed outside onto their patio. It was around eight o'clock so the sun was finally setting.
"Wow, this is a gorgeous sunset." Ashley said as we sat down on the patio chairs.
We all sat down and talked for another half hour and around 8:30 Brady volunteered to go clean up the glasses inside.
"I'll help too." I said as I headed inside.
