Crouched in the bushes, a girl with snow white hair nocked her arrow in her bow and drew her arm back, watching the deer with crystalline blue eyes. The girl lined up her bow and was about to release her arrow when a different arrow suddenly flew from the bushes on the other side and hit the deer straight in the eye, killing it instantly.

Muttering a curse under her breath, the girl released the tension and stood up, scowling at the underbrush across from her. Sauntering out, another girl appeared with a smirk.

Bright red and orange hair fell straight down up to the middle of the new girl's back, features exactly like the original, even with the same clear blue eyes that she had and the freckles across her nose. If one would only take a glance at them, the two looked identical, save for the hair.

"Damn it, Flamma. I was just about to shoot but you stole the kill."

Flamma grinned in amusement. "Hell yes, anything to steal a kill. Isn't that right, Nix?"

Nix glared at Flamma before huffing and walking forward, sliding the white hoodie of the cloak above her head before grabbing the arrow, taking it out of the deer and handing it to Flamma, and finally hoisting it onto her shoulder. With a small turn of her head, Nix abruptly turned around and started walking back to her village, Sword Heart.

Flamma scrambled to keep up, rushing to stay next to her twin. She shot Nix a cocky smile and continued to talk. "Aw, don't be like that. Just because I got the kill doesn't mean you have to be jealous."

Nix growled under her breath and shot a dirty look at her sister. "I'm not jealous, but come on, I was about to shoot it!"

Flamma snorted. "No friggin' way. You were taking way to slow, so I stepped in." Nix scoffed, but then stopped walking suddenly and frowned. Flamma blinked in surprise and tilted her head at her sister, asking, "What's wrong?"

"What day is it?" Nix's brow furrowed in thought, thinking to herself, no way is it today...

"Today's the third Wednesday of August, why?"

"Shit." Nix cursed more under her breath as she abruptly burst into a sprint, quickly going through the forest to get to their village faster. Flamma yelped in surprise and burst forward to catch up. "Why are you, ohhh...."

"Yeah, we need to get back to Sword Heart, now."

The twins always went out hunting for their adoptive family, (who told them they weren't of the same blood when they were five), and completely forgot what day it was today. Today was the Acceptance Ceremony. The third Wednesday of October every year is when all the girls and boys of 16 years gather in the village and see whether they are a Frost, a Flame, a Sapling, a Whirlpool, a Hurricane, a Flash, a Shade, or a Dragon Rider.

The strange names were simply to show what type of magic they had. For example, Frosts control ice, Saplings control the earth, Whirlpools control water, Shades control shadows, and so on. Any kids who are supposed to be tested and don't show up are severely frowned upon, and if they get in Drago Academy, they are given the worst jobs that their ability cannot help, especially if they become a Dragon Rider, which is very unlikely.

Dragon Riders are very rare, there are almost none compared to the mages of the elements. About 500 mages in each element are currently alive, with about 100 of each type in Drago Academy. There were only about 300 Dragon Riders in total, and about 100 in the school. It was for this reason that any Dragon Riders took very extensive training to ensure they stayed alive.

The twins had forgotten that today was that day, and raced to reach their village, drop off the dear, and go to the Ceremony. They just managed to drop off the dear at their house, which nobody was in because of the Ceremony, and make it in time to the Village Plaza for the Reading. Every child of 16 was to go forward, touch the stone on the altar, and see if they had any type of magic ability. Blue for Whirlpools, Red for Flames, Silver for Hurricanes, White for Flashes, Black for Shades, Green for Saplings, Bright Teal for Frosts, and Gold for Dragon Riders.
