If you don't know the song "Ocean Eyes" please listen to it. It is attached above.
This chapter is based on it.
. .It's been two weeks since "the closet incident" as Keith called it. Something about that night changed the way Keith saw Lance. The way he spoke about love and soulmates gave him a sort of depth he didn't have before.
Perhaps he wasn't as proud cocky as he seemed to be.
Keith had been watching him since he realized that he loved him. He wanted to know what it was about him that he couldn't get out of his head.
He loved how smart he was. How he tried to be funny as if wanting to be the center of attention at all times. He seemed so desperate for someone to find him entertaining like the joy of other people was his life source. Keith had never noticed before.
Lance's smile always seemed to glow. Not the sly grin he wore, but his genuine smile. Keith lived for it. Seeing that boy smile lit up stars in his head. He had been through some of the most beautiful galaxies in the universe, and nothing could compare to Lance's smile.
Nothing except for his ocean eyes.
They where calm and gentle like waves crashing against the sand, but they had a fiery passion in them that looked like it could burn down a planet.
They burned like a sky full of firecrackers and napalm bombes. Fireworks filled Keith's head when lance looked at him. When he saw those ocean eyes.
"Jeez, what's wrong with you dude?"
Keith had been so wrapped up in Lance's eyes he had forgotten about the rest of the paladins.
It was well after dinner, and group just sat in the common area and talked.
"Yeah, sorry I was just...thinking." Lance looked concerned but Keith didn't notice. He never noticed.
Ignoring it, Lance went back to his heated conversation with hunk about how easy it would be to make flavoured food goo.
"We could make cherry, or lemon, or strawberry, we could make anything we want!" Lance debated.
"Um, no? Lance that would be discussing. Just because you can do something, doesn't mean you should."
Keith didn't want to look at Lance anymore. He wanted him out of his head. He didn't want to be here. He didn't want to listen to Lance talking, laughing, flirting.
He got up and walked alone to the kitchen without a word. He wasn't hungry, he just didn't want to go back to his room.
He got himself a glass of water and chugged it down. He would have had some coffee, but he wanted to be able to loose consciousness quickly when he went to bed. He didn't need the caffeine, running though him at this time of night.
The water was cool and slipped down his throat easy. Keith just wanted to go to sleep and forget about his problems. And forget about Lance.
"Keith? Are you okay?" Shiro asked from behind him. "You've seemed distant tonight. For the past week actually. Are you alright?"
Shiro looked so concerned.
Keith had known Shiro all his life. They where brothers for all intents and purposes. He trusted him.
He looked at Shiro, ready to deny everything and insist he was okay, but when he looked into his eyes, he snapped.
Keith felt the tears begin to slowly drip down his face. He couldn't take it anymore. He hated himself for loving Lance. He hated Lance for being so perfect.
He hated his laugh, his smile, his eyes... No. not his eyes. His beautiful ocean eyes where the reason he was crying. Because Keith would do anything to see those eyes looking at him for the rest of his life.
He would kill to wake up every morning to see those eyes peering at him. To see Lance's eyes every tick of every day. He longed for it.
And now all that longing, is pours it's out of him in the form of tears.
Shiro pulled the raven haired boy into a hug. He was sad to see his friend, his brother, like this.
"What's wrong? Why are you crying?" He asked concerned. Keith was weak and tired. He decided to confess.
"I-I'm in love with Lance. I hate him so much, but every time I look at his eyes, I-"
Keith was cut off but a sob escaping his throat.
Lance would never love him. No matter what he did, he would never feel this for the boy Shiro held in his arms.
Keith was light headed. He didn't feel well. His stomach churned and ached. He wanted to throw up.
No. He wanted to die. He hadn't realized how attached to Lance he had become. Admitting the fact that he could never have him, caused him physical pain.
Keith could no longer stand. He had gone limp in Shiro's arms. He felt himself lift off the ground as the tall man carried him to his room.
The world was spinning. It was to much. Keith felt like he was falling. Falling into the black abyss of space.
He cried until he couldn't cry anymore and he passed out while Shiro carried him.
He was tired and he was weak. He let sleep consume him and he hoped he would never wake up.
