Cardinalpelt tried following Dawnflowers scent, but the pouring rain had watered out any trace of the she-cat. He hissed hating himself for his own thoughts and feelings. He hated the capital and the districts for making up stupid rules he hated the police and he hated most of all that he had blamed Dawnflower for all of his problems. He was a stupid tom.

Suddenly a canon went off in the distance. Cardinalpelt tensed perking his ears. Several heartbeats later the shriek of a female cat rang in the air.

"Dawnflower!" Cardinalpelt meowed and took off racing towards the sound of another shriek.

Cardinalpelt finally arrived at the scene. A sword was stuck in Dawnflowers stomach. Another gut wrenching screech escaped her mouth, except it was more weak now.

"Dawnflower no!" Cardinalpelt raced over to her side.Reaching to hold her paw. "Dawnflower no please! Please don't leave without understanding how manipulated I was by the capital Dawnflower I love you! Please know I love you! I'll live every day of my life missing you! And tha capital will pay! Dawnflower I love you!"

Dawnflower felt her heart warm listening to Cardinalpelt. "Won't you hold me...before I-" Suddenly Cardinalpelts paws ran from her shoulders to her back and he rubbed his muzzle against her neck. Dawnflower felt herself purr through her pain. The sky began to clear and the rain was almost all gone. Suddenly Dawnflower saw another image of her killer slowly rise behind Cardinalpelts head.

"Cardinalpelt," She meowed, but suddenly everything disappeared around her.

Everything was a bright light for a split second and there was a large meadow full of daisys in front of her, to the left were some stones upon which many cats resting and sharing tongues in the warmth of the sun. Apprentices played and raced in the meadows and out farther cats were hunting.

A warm pelt suddenly came up beside Dawnflower. She turned to see the dark red pelt of Cardinalpelt and instead of rubbing her muzzle along him she pushed him to the ground.

"Hey what was that for?" Cardinalpelt meowed.

"Thats for thinking of killing me!" Dawnpelt purred.

"Okay so now you forgive me?" Cardinapelt asked

"No! It'll take a lot more than that!" Dawnpelt grumbled.

"Its okay I have all of eternity for apologies," Cardinalpelt purred rising to his paws and licked her ear.

Rain still thundered over the rocks harder than it had before.  Shrewtail hissed under his breath he couldn't wait any longer. He needed the food and he was unable to tell when it was sunhigh because the gray clouds were so tightly woven not even a speckle of light would come through. His paws slipped over the rocks as he made his way down the rock slide, he placed his hind paws down before his front paws.

Shrewtail suddenly lost his footing and fell only a foxlength down, banging his shoulder hard on a large boulder.

"Argh!" Shrewtail hissed under his breath trying not to be so loud.

The tom lifted himself up wincing as he pressed his forepaw down. In front of him Shrewtail recognized a black and yellow bag. Shrewtail rushed over not even noticing he was stepping on the bobwire. He picked up the bag and pulled out a can. Empty. Another. Empty.

"Empty! Empty! EMPTY!" Shrewtail yowled and threw the bag back to the ground, punching a rock in frustration.

A rumble started to shake his hind paws. Shrewtail got onto all fours knowing the rock slide was about to fall again. He went to spring out towards the side where a large amount of thorn bushes lay except he collapsed onto the ground. He spun around realizing his hindpaw was caught on the bobwire. As he reached to unfasten his paw a rock the size of an apprentice crashed down onto his head.

BOOM!

Shrewtail felt every bone break and his skull crackle under the pressure. He dug his caws into his paws hissing and suddenly began to fall down a pitch black hole no light at all. Shrewtail felt his body spinning through the sky and suddenly...

THUMP!

Shrewtail hit the ice cold ground. The only light he saw had the tint of red blood. No cat came to greet him. He stood alone in the Dark Forest hissing in aggravation at his own stupidity for losing the games. He'd been training in the Dark forest prior, now he was going to find his mentor and prove he belonged here.

Larkwing heaved in breaths sheathing and unsheathing his claws in the downpour. The blood of both Cardinalpelt and Dawnflower dripping from his paws and down his chest fur. The metallic taste of blood filled Larkwings mouth and his brain buzzed with gorey images. He yanked out his sword from Dawnflowers stomach and started stalking the rest of the way through the forest his vision blurring in and out.

"Here kitty kitty!" He yowled with a low chuckle in his throat.

Shadowfur peered into the Dreaders old clearing, Ravenpaw shivering behind her. "Are you sure they all left?" She questioned the apprentice.

"There were three canons this morning plus Silverpaw," Ravenpaws high pitched meow answered.

Shadowfur nodded and lifted her nose to smell the meadow for any fresh scents. Her plan was to grab as much as they could, weapons, food and medical supplies but after the four canons had rung that morning Shadowfur began to feel Ravenpaws chance of making it would come through better than she thought.

A voice suddenly boomed from all corners of the arena.

"Tributes! Tributes! There are only three of you now so we've supplied each district cat with a bag of goodies." Shadowfur felt her stomach lurch at the sound of the cheery voice. "It will be in the cornicopia at Sunset. Good luck!"

Ravenpaw suddenly shrank back after the announcers voice finished. "It could be Shrewtail or Larkwing!" He cried out. "We have to go!"

The warrior stared into the mud soaked clearing. Most signs of the bomb attack had disappeared.

"Shadowfur you said you could get me home!" He felt his heart sink. Had the warrior lied to him.

"I know what I said and I don't lie!" The she-cat hissed. "I'm thinking."

Ravenpaw shrunk back and perked his ears listening for any sign of another cat approaching the cornicopia. He couldn't believe the she-cat when she told him that she'd help him get home no matter the cost. However now that he was thinking of it he knew many warriors who would lie just to save their own rears.

"Alright Ravenpaw listen to me. Listen good. I'm going to wait here until they drop our bags and get them. You can't be here no matter if its one of the Dreaders or not they'll attack you first. Follow our trail back to where I found you. A couple fox lengths away are some juniper berries it will help you gain strength if something happens to me. If another cat tries approaching you climb a tree the way I showed you. Got it?" Shadowfur instructed.

Ravenpaw felt his heart drop being separated from the older she-cat, but remembered how Cloudfern was and if this she-cat was the same he knew he'd be okay.

The two nodded to each other and Ravenpaw began heading up hill back the way they had come. He turned back and looked at Shadowfur who had already climbed up a tree and was perched with her eyes trained on the cornicopia.
