I woke up to sloppy kisses being placed on my cheek followed by the little giggles my son was letting out. My lips immediately curled at the sight of a freshly awakened Jaxon.
"Good morning baby!" I said softly as I returned the action of giving a bunch of kisses.
Jaxon laughed while squirming around. "Mommy no!" He shouted pretty loud.
"I hungry!" He said excitedly while jumping on my stomach.
"Ok baby, let's go get something in that belly!" I told him before I started to tickle him.
After a couple seconds of him laughing and protesting for me to stop, I did. I picked him up and carried him to the kitchen. I sat him in the chair at the island.
"Be careful" I warned him before turning to the fridge. Once I opened it, I realized there was barely any food. I turned my hope towards the pantry. There has to be something in there. I frowned at the sight of a practically empty pantry. Nothing that would be helpful right now. I knew i didn't even have enough cash for groceries or to go out to eat. There was only one solution.
I glanced at Jax before going to grab my cell that was left in my bedroom. Once I closed the door behind me, I felt the need to cry.
"No. You can't. It's fine." I whispered to myself.
I took a deep breathe before picking up my phone and walking back to the kitchen.
"Hey Jax, you want to tell grandma good morning!" I asked hoping he'll say yes.
His eyes lit up as he banged his hand against the table. "Ya! Call her!" He shouted.
I smiled as I started to call her, putting the phone on speaker. As it rang, Jaxon was fidgeting in his chair. I gave him a warning look just as my mother answered the phone.
"Hello Beyoncé." She said in what was close to a irritated tone.
I sighed before speaking. "Good morning mom, Jax wanted to talk to you." I told her, knowing that will distract her disappointment.
"Ya I did! I just woke up." He told her.
"You did? Did you sleep well?" She said in an excited tone.
"Mhm. Mommy slept with me too! It was so fun!" He explained. I had to laugh.
"She did? That's nice. What are you two up to now?" She questioned.
"It's breakfast time!" Jax shouted.
"I was going to take him out for breakfast." I lied. She made a knowing sound before speaking.
"Sure." She said before pausing. "Why don't you two come over here for breakfast. I just started. It should be done by time you arrive." She said.
I thankfully smiled. "I think Jax will like that. I'll see you." I responded.
"Ya see you gramma!" Jax told her excited.
"See you baby. Love you." She told him before hanging up.
"Let's get ready. Can you do it yourself?" I asked. He nodded as I took him off the high stool. He ran straight to his room to get ready.
After about 15 minutes of us getting ready, we were out the door. I strapped Jax in his carseat before starting the short drive to my mother's house.
When Eric and I decided to buy a house together, we were also trying for a baby. We decided on a home only 10 minutes away from my mother for support with our first child. I had an amazing relationship with her up until almost 4 months ago. She seemed fed up with me and she didn't understand how I felt.
I pulled up into my mother's driveway, turning off the music Jax was singing along to before getting him out. He ran straight to the door and knocked.
My mom had already answered the door before I could make my way to the front door. Even with the distance, I can see the disappointment and sympathy in her eyes. That was a common look people gave me lately. Almost no one knows about my addiction but they all seem to know about my unemployment.
"Hello Beyoncé, it's nice to see you two." She spoke up before pulling me into a hug. It started as a quick side hug but I was thankful when she pulled me in tighter and held me for a moment. I missed this. I needed this.
"Thank you mommy" I whispered softly.
"Of course baby! Now let's go eat" she said as she dragged me to the kitchen.
I took a seat at the kitchen table across from my mom and Jax.
"Where's dad?" I asked her.
"He's at a doctor's appointment. He'll be back soon, if your staying." She replied.
"I don't think so. I have some errands to run later." I told her as we started eating. She had prepared a delicious variety of foods.
"Do you need me to keep Jax?" She said in a knowing voice.
"Ya! I'll stay with gramma!" Jax butted in with a mouthful.
I looked at my mother waiting for her approval. She nodded in my direction with a motherly glare.
"As long as your handling important business, Beyoncé. I'm serious." She said sternly.
"Yes ma'am." I replied.
After we finished breakfast, i sat down with my mom for a while just talking. After about a hour, I headed out to run some errands. But once i was alone, my only thought was to go get a couple drinks to start off my day. This is exactly what my mother didn't want me doing.
