Nere's POV

Loud applause filled the hall as the boy Ana and I was eyeing earlier slowly disperse himself from his group or what seems like the group giving space for him to walk out. He then slowly walk up towards the stage and stood beside the Headmaster as he looks down at us, and smiling when his eyes landed on Ana and me.

"Well I don't know if all of you know me but I am Arson, The Jack of Diamonds. I am the Fifth Rank of the Royals. Well then I am a second year, I will explain a backstory about myself for the sake of the first year. I joined the Royals when I was about to become a second year, but I was only the Ninth Rank at that time which was The Joker. During this year I challenged the former Jack of Diamonds which is your current Jack of Hearts, Mariah Nelson, into a duel and I won so I received this Rank this year. My field is assassination and I specialize in needles and poison."

"Th-That's amazing"

Leah muttered under her breath, I looked up at the guy and I see that he is still smiling despite the fact that many of the first years do not believe in his abilities I mean who would be given the fact that his aura practically ooze out carefree and his nonchalant attitude and an assassin that climbed all the way to the Fifth Rank? Well, don't judge a book by its cover.

The moment Ana turned around just to ask me something, Arson's hand swiftly went behind his waist and with his deft hands he shot a fast projectile from his hand, I immediately sidestepped to the side and pulled Ana and Leah with me as the said projectile shot past me by a hair's width and dug itself into the wall behind. With an exhale of air, I calmed my rushing heart and looked behind where the projectile hit the wall while the others followed suit. The moment we all turned around to see the aftermath of the hit, strings of gasps were heard.

The projectile which was a thick needle is stuck in the wall as the end of it protrudes out but what is more terrifying thing besides the rapid and swift throw of Arson was the effect the needle did... Surrounding the thick needle was deep cracks on the wall connecting to the needle and the span of the cracks was an estimate of five metres.

"Oh, guess this schools' Royals is promising, to think that his abilities and strength can cause that much damage. Can't say that I'm not impressed."(Anastasia)

"Wh-What?! That throw was extremely strong and in every aspect of his being, Arson is one of the most fearsome killers worldwide. My family fears him greatly given that his raw talent is so dangerous and deadly well they all fear him with the exception of my brother."

Ana and I raised our eyebrows at this but did not want to pursue what she meant by that so we just turned back to the stage, the same for the other students. The second and third years weren't even affected but there were some who flinched when Arson threw that needle.

"Haha, I hope you now know that my abilities are genuine and across the globe, I have gained an alias, The Smiling Mask. But this just barely scratches the surface so, for those of you first years that thinks it will be easy to join The Royals well think again, there is a clear boundary to your level of strength and ours."

"Now, now that is enough Arson"

With that Arson smiled and waved clumsily before walking down the stage with a smirk present on his face. I look at Ana as she stares at me.

"So that is The Smiling Mask, huh, it is true his demeanor excretes pure nonchalance, he build his reputation here huh, well given the jobs he does it is expected to become this popular I mean who wouldn't if you assassinate your target in plain sight with a smile and make corpses of the ones that you had killed smile as well."

"...I feel sick now..."

"Ana Leah is sensitive, you shouldn't have said that!"

Ana just shrugs and turn back to the Headmaster.

"Now we will proceed on with classes. For the first years please do have your timetable with you and proceed to your classrooms or training grounds. Remember first years there are two fields in True School which are Assassination and Killer. You will choose your path later on in the future and within that field, you will be able to hone your skills more and learn more tactics that falls under the umbrella of those two. Now go on to your classes and have a good first day. Oh, before I forget, Nere and Anastasia please stay behind, same goes for you too, Arson."

"Understood"

"Okayy"

I just nodded and sighed before staying behind with the said two wondering what the Headmaster wants from us now.
