Thick snow clouds had blanketed the land, hiding the night sky above. I stared up at the starless night and felt the nerves twitch and tingle inside my stomach. The car glided slowly down the road, moving towards the lake. Nico and I sat in silence. He said nothing more after telling me about the meaning behind the red rose in the white flowers. I wondered who had placed the bloody rose there. Perhaps it was a disgruntled member staff or maybe it was one of Caspers many enemies. I shook my head, it couldn't be. There was only friends and family at the lodge... although it wouldn't have surprised me if it had been Rudolph who did it. After taking away his fiancee, it would make sense for him to hate me.
The snowy landscape drifted by until the dark waters of the lake suddenly came into view.
"We are close, now," Nico said, breaking the silence.
I lifted my head and looked out the front window and saw pretty amber lights twinkling in the distance, along the shoreline of the lake.
