I woke up several hours later, close to dawn. Casper was laid next to me, his body curled around mine, hugged me tight. The fire we were laid in front of, was burning low. In its dying embers, I examined the thin metal band that now sat upon my ring finger and suddenly thought, holy cow, I'm married.
My husband was lying next to me, blissful asleep after a wonderful night together, that made up for horrendous wedding ceremony we both had to endure. The awful events of this evening now seemed a distant memory and for the first time, in a long time, I felt happy and safe.
Shutting my eyes, I tried to fall back asleep, but Casper shifted slightly and murmured, "Are you awake?"
My eyes opened and smiled crept across my face. "Maybe."
"How do you feel? I didn't hurt you did I?"
Heat crawled across my face and shook my head, "No, I'm okay."
"That's good. I was worried about you. I heard some ladies find it painful when they do it."
"I heard that too, but you'll be glad to know it was okay."
