Goodbyes

The next day I was on crutches walking around the hospital. I visited all of my friends before going into Hayes's room.

I walked in and sat in the chair next to his bed and looked at him.

He just lay in his bed slowly breathing hooked up to several wires and cords. I looked next to his bed and saw a box with his clothes that he was brought in in. I picked up a black t shirt with the vans brand name on it although I could barely tell anymore through all the rips.

I picked up his shorts and heard something fall out and hit the ground. I picked it up and held the shell necklace I had given Hayes on our date. Nash walked up and grabbed my shoulder.

Nash had red puffy eyes and wet cheeks.
"What is it?!" I asked shaking

"The doctors say it's over. He isn't going to make it they are giving us today to say goodbye before they pull the plug." Nash burst into tears as did I.

We each held one of Hayes's hands for a long time.

I looked at him "I can't describe the way you changed my life Hayes Grier. From the moment you locked me in the janitors closet. Thank you for everything. I love you Hayes." I kissed him on the cheeks holding in my tears then ran out of the room.

I watched Nash cry as he said goodbye to his brother and became furious this wasn't fair. I kicked the nearest chair across the hall and looked through my things grabbed a letter from Hayes and opened it up......
