"Yes, it is I. Luke Hemmings, the Great." He smirked. Ashton walked in seconds later with Harry afterwards.
"Oh, hey man. What's up?" Ashton and Luke did one of those "bro hug" things. "Just thought I'd get some ice cream."
Lauren had punched out and went with her brothers. "By Kenz, see you tomorrow!" She waved and walked out.
"So what would you like?" Luke looked over all the flavors before his eyes landed on one. "Cookies and Cream."
"Okay. Cone or cup?" I got the ice cream scooper out and walked over waiting for his answer. "Cup." I nodded and began scooping out the ice cream.
As I handed it to him, his eyes lit up like a little kid. I walked him over to the cash register and he paid. "So what made you want ice cream at this time of night?"
"Well at first, I came to see you." Luke blushed. "But then when Ashton showed up and asked me why I was here, I needed an excuse so it didn't look suspicious." He laughed. Luke pretty much inhaled his ice cream and threw the empty paper cup in the trash.
"I love this place, but I hate it." I took a rag and sprayed some cleaner on it. Wiping down the counters was always the worst part for me. All the sticky ice cream that smells bad after being left on the counter for hours is just disgusting.
"When does your shift end?" Luke looked at me and then at the empty store. "Just about," I checked my phone for the time. 10:00 on the dot. "now." I threw the rag on the counter and walked away from it, wanting nothing to do with that stuff.
"Oh well I was going to ask if you wanted to hang out, maybe even spend the night?" He gave me a small smile, and I could see the nervousness in his eyes.
I smiled back. "Why do you always look so nervous when you talk to me?"
"Um, well..." He trailed off, scratching the back of his neck. In a very quiet voice he said, "Well you're really pretty, and the first girl that's every really hung out with me. I guess I just feel like I'm going to be rejected." I almost couldn't hear him, but I did. I had blushed at his comment, but tried to act like I didn't.
"Well I'm sorry to break it to you, but I'm going to have to raincheck. My aunt's actually home tonight, and I figured I would hang with her." I gave him a little pout as his face dropped.
"It's okay." He mumbled looking down at his shoes. Damn, I felt extremely bad.
I walked out from behind the counter and over to the sad boy in front of me, giving him a hug. "I'm so sorry Luke. I would if I could. I promise, another time." He nodded.
"What about tomorrow, I really like spending time with you." He asked. "Wow, I must sound really desperate." He pinched the bridge of his nose.
I ran back behind the counter and punched out, throwing my name tag in the pile of others. "I might just have to take you up on that offer, Hemmings." I smiled.
This made him smile really wide and show his dimples. Wow, those are really cute.
I grabbed the keys and locked the door to the shop. I have the earlier shift tomorrow, so I'm going to have to open up. It's not like people eat ice cream at 8 in the morning anyway, so it'll just be me, the tv, and over 50 ice cream flavors.
Luke and I walked over to the parking lot where my car was. I gave him a quick hug saying, "See you tomorrow."
He walked away and I know I may sound like a stalker, but I watched him. He didn't get into a car, so he must have walked. Right then, it started to rain. I was surprised at how quick the weather changed and felt bad for him. He pulled up his hood and hugged himself to keep warm. I quickly pulled out of the parking lot and drove over to him, driving slower and rolling down the window. "Get in, I'm driving you home."
