Temple

Men tell me my body is a temple.
Not just anyone can knock on its door
A sacred place to worship
And they use their fingers in prayer

Bless me with holy whispers
And a land with milk and honey.

But this religion has one believer
One believer only
No other can step on the holy grounds
No other can part his lips in song

I have been told my body is a temple.
I should keep it clean and sacred
I should keep it untouched
I should be careful if wandering strangers
Who might lodge there
Turn up uninvited and I beg them
"Please, stop!"

They have failed to say that
Yes, my body is a temple
But my mind is the god

And if you dare walk on holy ground
Without Gods permission
She will smite you down
With lightning and fire

I can pray in my own temple
Have dancers in silk lace
Let my mouth sing hosanna
And let my lips utter the prayer.
And you must let me.
For no one can say no to god

Men and woman come and go
Each down on their knees
To travel to the temple
Is a pilgrimage
And you, you are my pilgrim
