The fire was warm where it's hot breath brushed against Keith's side. He was on the floor again, sitting instead of lying down, his casted hand resting in his lap while his good one propped him up.

He had cleaned the house again and made himself lunch. Lance had come over with the folder full of homework, then left because his mother would be making dinner soon, so Keith was alone while he waited for Shiro or Adam to come home. Some days they arrived at the same time, some days one of them had to work late. Some days neither of them got back until Keith was asleep.

All he could say was that he was bored. He'd gone to the doctor's the previous day and they said he would be fine, he was healing regularly. A tiny bit slow, though, and they had asked him if he'd fallen at any point. Keith lied beautifully and said he'd fell while walking up the stairs—the house had two floors. The main one and a basement where the washer and dryer were. Shiro hadn't known about him going to the ice rink. It was better if he didn't. He was already stressed.

Keith didn't think he could wait until Friday to go back. He wanted to go now. School was hell, with Lotor and the teachers hating him since he was an outsider, but it was something to do. Keith was the type of person that didn't want a peaceful, quiet life where everything went right. He wanted action. He wanted chaos. He wanted fire and passion and moments he'd remember for his entire life. He craved it. He was the type of person who spoke like they would die tomorrow and have no regrets.

His thoughts were interrupted by his phone buzzing from where it sat face down on the coffee table. He turned, picked it up, and looked at it, squinting at the bright screen.

Pigeon: Bored. wanna come over? my dad and bro are out having bonding time.

Keith sighed, smiling slightly and puting out the fire. He texted back,

Kogane: Sure I'll bee there in a bit.

Pigeon: I'm at Lance's house btw

He slipped on an air force jacket Shiro had given him, since he'd grown out of it. Then he hurried out into the cold and walked towards Lance's  house. He still wasn't used to the way the cold hit him when he walked out. The crisp, sharp air that hurt sometimes was new and exciting. The crunch of snow beneath his boots was satisfying.

He'd never been to Lance's house before. He knew Lance had a lot of sibling. How many, exactly, Keith hadn't figured out yet. Keith also didn't know what Lance's family thought of  homosexuality. Or if they even knew Keith and Lance were...something. They weren't dating since they hadn't gone on any dates. They were in that gray area between friends and more than friends and it confused the hell out of Keith. This was his first ever attempt at a romantic relationship. An event that would go down in history.

His nose was cold and red by the time he arrived to the yellow house. It wasn't small, but it was inviting. Children's toys were littered through the yard, covered by frost. What appeared to be a snow man sat as a guardian in the lawn, its black stone eyes staring at nothing in the distance. The paint on the house was chipping and there was one window with a big crack across it, like it's been hit with a baseball.

Walk up the driveway, Keith went to knock on the door. There were multiple cars in the driveway, more than would seem practical for a single family.

At the door, Keith raised his hand to knock. Before he could, the door opened to Lance, smiling apologetically.

"I want to apologize preemptively for the mess. Family is over for a birthday, and by family, I mean every person who could get here on time that's even remotely related to the birthday girl." After his introduction, he stepped aside so Keith could move in. Once he the door was shut behind him, the noise registered. Children screaming and laughing, pounding foot steps, pots and pans being moved around. Keith breathed deeply as he took off his coat.
