Before that happened though, all eyes were on the laptops on the table. Karl had cameras installed around The Recruit's apartment complex, the park across the street, at the intersection, inside bushes. Installed illegally; completely untraceable. Karl had a laptop opened up, but he wasn't monitoring anything. Everything on his screen was Reddit, or 9gag, or 4chan. The camera feeds were buzzing from one of Cat Girl's laptops, on the right.
Mr. Kipples was running through the streets. Hard to make out his black coat; the white streak on his head wasn't visible. But he was swift. Tommy latched onto the blur. Mr. Kipples was at a park, running around homeless sticking pins into their arms and moaning.
Exiting the park, onto the street, the cat looked around. Cat Girl pressed the digital knobs and levers from the second laptop on her left. What those levers did—Tommy didn't see much, outside of Mr. Kipples moving based on Cat Girl's clicks. Anytime Mr. Kipples veered off a path that didn't lead to the recruit's house, Cat Girl turned a knob, and he was back on track.
When the beaten apartments were in view, the camera feeds switched to different angles. To The Recruit burning a cigarette on his porch. He was looking off into space. Brown messy hair. A white undershirt. Sweat pants despite a relatively hot temperature. Mr. Kipples looked at him. The Recruit looked at Mr. Kipples.
Then Cat Girl pressed a digital lever, an animation of a gear pulled it down, and Mr. Kipples ran away.
"Scary," Tommy said.
Cat Girl replied, "He follows my orders."
"What is the purpose of this?"
"To try and see if The Recruit gets attached to the cat. Maybe he will try and befriend it. I will be playing audio to incept the idea of buying cat nip. It should be enticing enough for him to act on it."
"And when he tries to befriend Mr. Kipples?"
Karl cut in, "Then we invite him over here."
Because this house belonged to someone gay. Someone that took a girl away from The Recruit. Cat Girl continued playing the Binaural Audio, leading Mr. Kipples back to the apartment.
