Ruth spun on her heels and gaped wide-eyed. "Are you, are you saying that, are you saying that you killed them?" Her voice was a mixture of confusion, fear, and disbelief. There was a slight shake to her body as she stared back at her injured friend.

Glancing up from the sofa in his own disbelief, TJ's brown eyes were wide. "Fuck no! Do I look like a killer? I don't have the biceps for that shit." He tossed his tattooed arms up into the air at this and sighed. "Seriously? You would believe that I killed them?"

She paused and then shrugged in response before she ultimately sighed dramatically. "Oh, thank fuck!"

"Fuck what?" David's eyes widened as he turned to glance at his friend. "What are you fucking?"

"You!" TJ called from his prone location on the ratty old couch. "She wants to fuck you, idiot!"

Ruth turned cherry red as she waved her arms around frantically. "Please ignore him, he's delusional. He doesn't know what he's saying."

"I know exactly what I'm saying," TJ called even louder. "Fuck her in the pussy, man! She needs it!"

If it was possible, Velma's cheeks turned an even deeper, crimson red as she waved her hands in David's face. "Ignore him. Just got back over there with Ryan."

At the front door, Ryan was trying to step outside, but Vee was grasping his wrist and using the counterbalance of her weight to keep him trapped in place. "Don't go!" she whined as she continued to lean backward to prevent him from moving. "It's not safe!"

Exasperated, he turned his attention back toward Victoria's pleading eyes. He stepped back into the room beside her, clutched her shoulders comfortingly, and smiled reassuringly. "I will be fine, Vee. And if I'm not, you'll survive this, okay? Whatever happens, you're going to get out of this mess. I promise."

"You can't promise something like that," Vee bowed her head solemnly. "I appreciate that you're trying to make me feel safe, but none of us are. Right? Don't go! Or, well, don't go alone. Let me come with you," she offered sweetly, hope filling her eyes.

Marchand gasped. "I cannot permit you to leave this premises, little lady."

Velma rolled her eyes. "No one is leaving, come on, people!"

Turning her sweetness to bitterness at the flip of a switch, Vee jumped around Ryan and out the door. "Does everyone just think of me as some useless damsel in distress or something? I can do things too, you know! I can save the day!" She kicked up a cloud of sand and dirt as she stomped around beside the flag-pole and fire-pit, grumbling. "Girls can kick ass, too!"

"GIRL POWER!" Ruth cheered with her fist in the air, nearly knocking David in the back of the head.

Ryan hopped out of the clubhouse to stand beside Vee, shaking his head slowly. "I don't want you to come with me, Vee. It has absolutely nothing to do with you being younger than me or a girl. I'm worried about everyone, and I feel like this is the safest place to be right now. It's really not safe in the woods and I want to know that –"
