It had required a lot of chutzpah and physical fortitude that she never thought she had, but Victoria had managed to drag the massive green canoe the fifty-feet from its resting place to the shoreline. She was currently trying with all of her might to heave the small boat into the water without getting wet, but she was failing miserably at that. Fuck it, she thought, trying to stay dry when you were about to row for your life seemed like a fruitless task.

When she strained to listen, she could occasionally hear the guys shouting somewhere off to her left, further back into the woods. With no lights anywhere, save for the deadly fire at the clubhouse, it would be hopeless to try and discern exactly where they were – but she suspected that they must be somewhere not far down the trail that looped around the lake's western edge.

With one final exertion of energy, she managed to slide the canoe far enough into the water to jump inside. Quickly grabbing the oar, she sat on the middle bench and began to paddle herself as far from the beach as possible. Okay, so she was no canoeing expert, but maybe Chris had some kind of psychic premonition when he had re-taught her how to control the craft on the water. Thank God she had listened – a little. She probably should have paid closer attention and taken more away from the lesson, but being in such close proximity to her crush had wrecked havoc on her brain cells. Why didn't anyone tell her that her life would ultimately depend upon that stupid lesson?

Realizing that none of that meant boo at the moment, Vee began to paddle for her life, hearing Chris' warning over and over again in her head: Get to the center of the lake, Spencer's crazy ass won't come after you there.

Spencer's smile widened to freakish depths as he stood over Ryan's bloodied body and turned in slow-motion to face the other man. "And then there was one," he sneered triumphantly.
