I was right. I couldn't pay attention in class at all. I kept thinking about Damien. I can't believe he's my boyfriend! I can't believe I have a boyfriend! Gosh, that sounds so weird. I have a boyfriend.

I really wanted to try saying it out loud to see how it sounded, but that would obviously be a bad idea for the middle of class. I couldn't stop smiling all day. When I had class with Alec he asked me if I was high. I didn't want to tell him that Damien and I were going out yet. What if Damien didn't want anyone to know? Like, not even Sarah?

Well, I'm sure he wouldn't mind telling Sarah. Maybe I would just wait to tell anyone about it until lunch on Monday. Sarah should be back by then, and then Damien and I could tell her and Alec would be there too, most likely.

"Ember," someone said. There were hands in front of my face clapping. I blinked a few times before looking around to see that the classroom was empty, and Alec was standing in front of me.

"Ember, class is over. Why do you keep zoning out man? It's kind of freaking me out."

"I- Uh, sorry. It's nothing," I said quickly.

"Whatever you say," Alec replied, turning to walk away as I put my books and paper in my backpack.

"Er, Alec?" I called after him.

He turned back around and said, "Yeah?"

"Did we have homework?" I asked sheepishly, a little embarrassed for not paying enough attention during class to even know what homework we had.

"Yeah, I'll text it to you later," he said.

"Thanks man!" I called back, putting my backpack on my shoulders and walking out of the room after him.

The rest of my classes, I tried my hardest to pay attention. I tried to write notes of what the teacher was saying to keep my attention on them, but most of the time my notes turned into doodles and Damien's name. I was going to have to remember to get rid of those papers so that no one ever saw them. That might be embarrassing.

At lunch, Damien seemed happy and couldn't seem to sit close enough to me. He had his hand on my thigh for almost the entire lunch. Alec gave us some weird looks, but we ignored them.

By English class, I was pretty much ignoring Alec, giving Damien my full attention. Alec seemed a little annoyed, but I brushed it off. He would understand after Monday. He had probably already guessed what was up.

After school, I walked out in the parking lot to Damien's car since he said he was going to take me home. I didn't see him anywhere outside on my way to his car, so I just sat my backpack on the ground in front of it and waited for him. I watched the school to see if I could spot him.

Finally, I saw someone with bright blond hair walk out of the school, Alec, and next to him was Damien. They were talking to each other, a bit animatedly. Damien's face looked hard, maybe angry? Alec was speaking loud, although I couldn't hear him, and waving his arms around. Damien looked annoyed.

All of a sudden Damien looked up and locked eyes with me. His face smoothed out and he turned to Alec, stopping him mid sentence. Alec glared at Damien then turned and headed back into the school. Damien looked back up at me and grinned. I couldn't help but grin back, despite the weird feeling in the pit of my stomach.

What had they been talking about? Why did they both look angry? They hardly ever talk to each other, what could they be mad about?

Damien made it to the car, still grinning. "Ready to go?" he asked, and I nodded at him. I picked up my backpack and threw it in the back seat after Damien unlocked the doors, then got in the front seat.
