The odds were in blue team's favor.
Out of the corner of his eye, Goggles had spotted a poster mentioning the Square King Contest. Apparently, you would win a prize and the chance to start your own business! I guess today is my lucky day, Goggles thought to himself.
"Crusty Sean!" the blue squid began to say, "We'll get your food truck fixed, I promise!" His eyes closed and he grinned to show he knew what he was talking about. As silly as he looked at the moment, with his torn clothes, he managed to pull off the confident look. All was left was for Crusty Sean to be convinced.
"...How are we gonna do that again?" asked Headphones in a quiet tone. She was curious as to whether he was bluffing or had an actual solution. Her eyes followed Goggles until he disclosed the answer at last.
"Once we win the turf war tournament, we'll be able to replace your truck as part of the prize!" he revealed. His form switched into a squid and he flopped on the ground happily. It looked like Goggles did not know much about the contest since he seemed so carefree. As the responsible one in the group, Glasses decided to speak up.
"Goggles, look," he clarified, "If we're relying on a contest prize to save us, then we absolutely have to win." One of his arms rested at his side, while he used the other to make gestures as he spoke. "We have to plan what we'll do to guarantee a victory."
The squid on the floor stood up, revealing Goggle's human form. "Let's plan at my place later!" he offered. "I accidentally ordered two pizzas and I don't know what else to do with them..."
"How do you accidentally order two pizzas?" Headphone asked, with a confused expression. Of course, this was Goggles they were talking about, but she still wanted to know. It didn't sound like a bad idea though.
Rider slid his hands into his jacket pockets and exhaled. "I think we should get Goggles some new clothes first..."
[...]
"...thou will purchase thy Eggplant Mountain Coat?" Jelfonzo asked the currently shirtless inkling. In response, Goggles nodded to confirm his purchase. He placed 7,600 coins on the counter and put on his new jacket.
"Isn't it cool?!" Goggles beamed. His smile was similar to a happy child's receiving a long-awaited present.
"I would say so!" Glasses agreed.
"It really suits you!" Headphones said complementarily.
"I wanna be fresh too! I'm gonna get my tentacles cut right now!" Bobble added, and left before anyone could say anything. She skipped her way to a nearby haircut place as Goggles followed right behind her. The other three watched as they began to leave, knowing it was too late to stop them.
"Headphones and I will go test out new weapons. Let's meet up back here in an hour," the leader of the blue team said.
"OK." Rider went after Bobble and Goggles as the other two members of the team went their separate way.
[...]
Bobble was sitting in a black leather chair, a towel under her newly cut tentacles. The tentacle-dresser spun her so she could face the mirror. She was satisfied with the result so she left her coins at the chair and headed out to the door. Rider and Goggles got out of their waiting chairs, making their way to the plaza to meet up with the others...
Rider: We're here.
Headphones: Ok! We're at Sheldon's store, see you in about a minute.
Headphones and Glasses saw their friends the moment they stepped out the door, not to mention how noticeable Goggles's waving was. Their new weapons were disassembled and put away in their shiny leather cases. The group subconsciously formed a circle to talk with each other. Glasses remembered what they had planned to do.
"The plan was to go to Goggles', place?" This was a rhetorical question, but Glasses' little pause made it seem as if he wanted an answer.
"Yup!" Goggles replied affirmatively.
"I guess we should start making our way there, then, just to be safe."
And so the five inklings made their way to the metro station, talking amongst each other in small groups, until the train came by for them to go on. It came to Rider's mind that he had not yet been to Goggles' apartment. Would it be messy and cozy? Or maybe he just had a disorganized room? Did he have anything to decorate the place? He was curious, he wanted to know, but why? It should not have caught much of his interest. They had arrived by the time he zoned back in.
"Hey Rider!"
His heartbeat raced when he recognized the familiar voice. Why did he feel so weird all of a sudden? Rider knew he had some sort of feelings for Goggles, but he expected it to be more casual and not something he'd have to deal with. "Yes, what?" he asked.
"You haven't been to my house before!" Goggles stepped out of the train and walked backwards so he could face the other. "It's kinda messy, but you probably saw that coming." Light shone brightly as they stepped out of the station. The blue inkling spotted his home from where they were standing. It was only a block away, so he pulled out his keys from his hero jacket.
"You didn't forget them this time!" Glasses mentioned. He was already holding a spare one in his hand. The group entered the building as a rush of cool air came in.
They soon arrived at door number 69 (Goggles wanted this apartment number specifically) as Goggles stepped in front to insert the key. He twisted it and was greeted by a pre-built pillow fort. His instincts told him he had to take it apart — as sad as it seemed — so that his friends could have a place to sit.
"Okay guys, sit down! I'll get the pizza!" Goggles said as he ran to his kitchen. From the living room, you could hear him ripping open cardboard boxes. If you looked closely, you could see him putting slices not just in the oven, but in the microwave and toaster as well.
"Yay! Toaster pizza!" Bobble cheered. Her arm shot up.
"Did he forget how to heat up food again?" Headphones sighed. She laid her eyes upon the other room, as if something were going to happen. Almost immediately, Goggles began to yell from the kitchen. She laughed, "I think we all know what's going to happen..."
"MY PIZZA SHOT OUT OF THE TOASTER!" the inkling screeched as he slid across the kitchen. He picked up the slice off the floor and put it into his plate. "Five second rule!" he exclaimed, happily putting a cold slice of pizza into his mouth. Rider was behind him and on his way to the oven so he could get the good pizza for the rest of the blue team. The yellow green inkling waited until the other faced him, somehow holding four paper plates in one arm. He poked Goggles on the cheek.
"You idiot..."
