Blue team laid on the ground hopelessly defeated. They had improved so much in such a short amount of time, but they would never be able defeat the highest member of S4 and his team. At least, not anytime soon. The humiliating loss of the turf battle had sunk in. This left the members of the blue team in shock. In the sidelines, a yellow-green inkling had been watching the match. The blue team had did their best against skull and the rest of the purple squad. It was a bitter defeat, but he saw it coming. As someone who had a rank of S+, he knew there was something he could do to help the team out.
"Guys," Goggles began, "Let's go practice."
"Oi," Rider piped up. "I'll be giving you guys some special training." It seems he had a surprising change in character different from his usual bad temper.
The five inklings soon left the battling arena. As they left to go train on a different stage, Glasses could not seem to get the problematic battle off of his head. The rest of the team nodded their heads in agreement as he pointed out how awful the match was. It wasn't long until they would arrive, so the conversation quickly changed.
"Listen, this Skull guy is unlike anyone you've ever fought before," Rider spoke. "Doesn't that concern you?"
"Not at all! I just felt a bit anxious during the match," Goggles cheerfully responded. Glasses and Headphones both looked at him with wide eyes. "I wouldn't mind battling with Skull once more. Let's all train together today!" His persistence was motivational.
"Let's do it!" exclaimed Glasses.
"Right!" agreed Headphones.
"We'll do our best—!" Bobble cheered.
That's blue team for you, Rider thought. "Alright, let's get going."
The stage was set to Moray Towers. The blue squad were at one end of the map, with Rider and his team on the opposite end. Each team's spawn point was set quite high, which Goggles pointed out. It took a few seconds for the countdown to reach 0, but as soon as it did, everyone quickly inked turf until reaching the center area. Rider stood at a higher platform, giving him an advantage over other players. He held the E-Litre 3K Scope beside him.
"Listen up! Skull is the strongest E-Litre user there is!" he told the blue team. The yellow-green inkling rose his weapon and aimed it at Goggles. "This training of mine isn't easy! Be prepared to get splatted! You're up first."
Goggles did as told, and jumped down from the platform only to get immediately shot. It quickly became a ruckus as everyone freaked out.
"No way!"
"You only gave him two seconds!"
"Why did you shoot him in the pants?"
"IT WASN'T ON PURPOSE!"
Next up was Glasses. Fortunately, he had the opportunity to observe what happened to his previous teammate, which let him avoid that from happening again. I'm going in from the side, he thought to himself. Sadly, he was still within the 3K Scope's range, and was soon splatted by Rider. Headphone and Bobble suffered the same fate. Just how far could the E-Litre 3K Scope reach? Beating Skull was out of the question until they could pass this.
But Goggles had an idea.
He quickly made his way to the middle area of the stage. Rider positioned himself, then took aim and shot at the blue inkling. Unpredictably, he found himself in a situation he wasn't expecting just yet. His shot had missed! He tried to shoot again, but Goggles was just able to dodge every hit. What amazing strategy could he have come up with?
"I just thought, 'My snack is gonna get damaged!' and then I was able to dodge it," he disclosed.
"You literally can't just do things like a normal person!" Rider snapped. Though, he did take into account that the strategy was working. Soon the other inklings followed, and decided to make up fake consequences for getting hit. Nearly every fully charged shot Rider fired was dodged by the blue team.
Headphones was going up. "If I get hit, I'll get acne!"
Then Glasses had a turn. "If I get hit, I'll have to wear contact lenses!"
Bobble had a smile plastered onto her face the entire time. "If I get hit, I'll go to hell!" This made Glasses give her a shocked but also very concerned look. To him, she always acted a little too happy.
It looks like they finally did it, thought Rider. He would never understand those four inklings and their ridiculous solutions. Yet they always seemed to succeed in the end. It was as if Goggles would always bring the group together, no matter what he did. His unpredictability and movement are what made him perform so well in turf wars, despite having a C- rank. Rider felt the need to talk to him one-on-one.
. . .
A lot of training had been done today. An orange and blue sky, warmly gliding over your skin, felt like a sweet reward for all the work they had done. There was so much both teams had accomplished and learned within the last few hours. Goggles pulled out a jar of pickled plums. Everyone agreed it was time to leave. The inklings started to put away their weapons and were leaving the stage. But there was one last thing Rider had to do.
"Goggles." The name rolled off his tongue perfectly. The blue inkling boy stopped to look back at him, waiting for the other to continue. "You alone may or may not be stronger than the entire S4."
"Huh?" Goggles popped a pickled plum into his mouth.
"You're a crucial member to your team. Here's my phone number, if you want to get more personal with your training." A small paper was handed to Goggles. He took a quick look, folded it up, and placed it in his jacket pocket.
"Thanks!"
Something told him they'd see each other again very soon.
