(ALLIE'S POV)
My name is Allie Thompson. I'm 16 and I'm rich.
Well, I mean, wouldn't you be rich if the owner of Adidas decided to hand off the company to your father?
Now, before you go all "ew snobby rich kid" on me, I want you to hear me out. Yes, my house is huge. Yes, I ride in a limo to and from school. Yes, there are cameras following me every time I step out of the mansion.
But I earn good grades in school. I care about other people. I would say I'm pretty nice. I'm not the most gorgeous person out there, but you could say that I get asked out on a daily basis throughout a school year. And a lot of my friends AREN'T. RICH. I wish people would know that being wealthy doesn't mean you have to be around rich people all the time.
I have lived in Monterey pretty much all my life. I love Cali. My mom is an actress who just finished a big Hollywood movie that's coming out a month after school starts. But after my dad became the owner of Adidas and our whole family rose to fame, we moved to Chicago. I'm not really sure why. Maybe it's just because that my parents thought I had played around enough in California and that I needed to pull my shit together if I were to take over the company after my dad retired.
Whatever the reason is, here I am in Chicago. Of course I've kept in touch with my Cali friends, but I miss them. Tomorrow's my first day of junior year at Cedarwood High, and I'm looking forward to meeting some new people.
It was almost 11. I was getting ready to go to bed when someone knocked on my door. I pull the earbuds out of my ears. "Come in," I say. My father walks in with a suit on and sits next to me on my huge white bed. My dad looks tired. It's not easy trying to run a huge company. "Hey Al," he says. I smile. "So about school tomorrow..."
"Yeah?" I say.
"I wanted to talk to you about the whole new kid thing. It's kind of different because you're well-known right now."
"Dad, I know. Step out of the limo, smile, pay no attention to the cameras-"
My father laughs. "Of course you know the rich kid drill. But I don't want you to assume that everyone will pay attention to you because there's another very wealthy student at Cedarwood."
"What? Who?"
"I'm pretty sure you've heard of him. His name is Park Chanyeol. His parents run Samsung."
"Ohh, I know him. Well, I've heard of him. A lot. I don't personally know him at all. Is he in my grade?"
"Yes. You should try to talk to him tomorrow. I spoke with him and his parents a few weeks ago, and they know that you're going to be at Cedarwood for the rest of your high school career. He seems like a pretty nice guy." He winks.
"Okay?"
"I just don't want you to have any trouble with him. In fact, get along with everyone if possible."
I laugh. "Isn't that what every parent wants on the first day of school?"
"It is." He kisses my forehead. "Now go to sleep, Allie." After he leaves, I listen to a few more songs and soon I fall asleep wondering what's going to happen tomorrow when one rich kid meets another.
