(LAY’S POV)

Chanyeol looks really determined. “Lay, let me just make this clear. Allie is mine. You don’t understand. She was mine from the beginning.” I know that.

“Okay.” But what made her yours? Your whole relationship is fake.

He starts walking away and he waves a “goodbye” with his back facing me. “WAIT.” I call. He turns around. “Is there a problem?” He raises his eyebrows. “I...give me a chance.”

He looks interestingly at me. “Admirable,” he finally says. “Okay. Let’s have a competition...”

Oh no. Chanyeol’s better than me in almost everything- “...a guitar playing competition.” Hmm.

“Here are the rules: both of us can either choose an acoustic guitar piece that’s already written or write our own. No lyrics, music only. We have to play it in front of her and make her decide right then and there.” That was fierce.

“I don’t have a problem with the rules, but is this really the only way-”

“Yes. Because this is the only category in which you actually have a chance at beating me in.” Ouch. Isn’t he being a bit too cocky?

I exhale slowly. “Okay. When is this going to be?”

“How about...three days before winter break. At lunch. In Mr. Morse’s room. I’ll talk to him about it, but I doubt he’ll say no because this is music-related. I’ll also have people stand outside the door to prevent people from coming in. So three days before winter break at lunch. Bring your guitar. Deal?”

“Sounds like a deal.”

He is going to lose.

(CHANYEOL’S POV)

I’ve already bought the CD140 acoustic guitar, and it should show up on my doorstep tomorrow. I’m really excited for this, but I’m also super nervous. Lay is amazing at the guitar, and Allie has told me more than once. Since we’re presenting our pieces three days before winter break, I want to give it some holiday spirit.

Holy shit. How am I going to do this.

(LAY’s POV)

Since Allie has already heard my “Await” song, I need to find another song to sing to her. I open my laptop and look through all of the songs I’m composed. Right now, none of them are good enough to present, but the one that’s closest is this one called “Because of You.” I’ll have to edit it some more, but I think after some revision it’ll be good to go.

(CHANYEOL’S POV)

I want to spend most of my time on practicing the song, because Lay has had way more guitar experience than me. I think the song “I’m Yours” by Jason Mraz will do. It’s lighthearted but also has a lot of meaning. Plus, it’s catchy. I just have to work out the performance part of it.

(LAY’S POV)

I stayed up fairly late working on editing my piece last night. I am finally satisfied with it. I just hope Allie will be too.

Finally, it’s time to bring out my artistic side and give it my all.
