Chapter 8 - Embrace

Ira's POV

I couldn't do it.
I lowered my fist. I didn't understand why she was allowing me to hurt her. I needed an answer.
"Why?" I started.
Diamond looked up at me. Those eyes...
"Why are you letting me hurt you? Why did you come up with this plan? Why do you care so much?" My whispers turned into weeping.
I was very embarrassed, wailing in front of my arch nemesis like a baby for no particular reason.
To my surprise, Glitter Diamond wrapped me into my first real hug.
"It simply wouldn't be fair to leave you three behind," she said softly. "Maya helped me realize that even the worst people can change for the better."
Not much happened after that. I just let myself sob and let her hug me. After what seemed like decades, I decided to return the hug. Right then and there, my heavy heart felt lighter.
Then it started to burn.
"Why's my chest hurting?" I gasped, clutching it.
She didn't let me go.
"It must be your heart reacting to light energy..." Diamond uttered. Then, she added, "I knew you always had a heart, Ira."
That was the last thing I heard before I dozed off in Rachel's arms.
