"Ymir-" She trailed off. "I really don't care about that kind of thing." I held my breath. "Really?" I asked. My face was stiff. I thought she could hear me smiling. "Well then,-" I trailed off. "Listen Ymir, I've got to go, see you two at school..." "Thanks Christa, see you then." "And, Ymir..." "Hm?" "Thanks for finally telling me, or... being honest."
The doorbell rang. I paided for our food and spun on my heals. "You orderd pizza?" Lena laughed. "You know as well as I do I can't cook. I eat chips and pudding for dinner." She smiled at the thought of that. "Don't forget to eat your vegetables!" She joked.
Lena and I eventually ended up on the couch watching some B rated horror movie. "Ymir,-"She yawned. "I'm sorry about everything." "What exactly is everything?" "I should've stood up for our relationship at the time, like I did about going to Germany." "It was just as hard on you as it was me, Ymir. I hope you know that." I did'nt reply. I didn't know how to reply to something like that.
"Ymir?" I looked over at her. "Can we get back together?"
I stiffened. She was a weakness. I still loved her. I turned my attention back to the movie. "If you want too." I tried to act cool. I couldn't believe it. Something felt off. I ignored the feeling. Lena snuggled up closer to me.
I walked to school with Lena, I held her hand. I didn't even wait for Christa. At the time I didn't think about it. I saw her in the hallways, small talk and little smiles.
Over the weeks, I had stopped talking to Christa completely.
"Come on Ymir, let's go." "Can I just talk to Christa for a minute?" I waited patiently outside school waiting for her to come outside. "Ymir, i've only been back three weeks, let's go get icecream or something." I could tell Lena was getting impatient. "Ymir, do you have feelings for her?" I broke out in a sweat again. "What? No way! We're just friends. We'll never be anything more." I swallowed hard.
"Then why the hell do you want to talk to her so badly?" "She's a friend! I haven't talked to her in awhile an-" "Alright. Just catch up to me when you can." She turned away from me. "Lena wait,-" I turned my back on the school just as Christa walked out. Lena grabbed my hand and we began to walk.
I was curled up on the couch with a late night t.v show on, while I surfed the web. I was alone tonight. Lena's aunt wanted her home for a few days. My phone buzzed. It was Christa.
"Hey, uh Christa..." I trailed.
"Ymir, It's been forever sense I've heard you're voice. Oh, uh... Do you want to hang out this Friday?"
"Sounds fun. Did you have anything in mind?"
"No, maybe I could come over to your place, so we could rent a movie and order a pizza or something."
"I'd love too. See you at school tomorrow."
I hung up.
"Ymir! It's good to see you!" Christa chimed at me. "I'm hoping to have fun, and... uh catch up a bit with each other tonight!" I smiled.
We were on our way home when Lena pulled up in her car. "Hey Ymir! ...Christa." They exchanged looks. "Wanna hang out tonight, rent a movie?" Lena asked. I walked away from Christa up to her window. "Uh, I'm actually going to hang out with Christa tonight, if that's okay?" Lena gave me a long stare. "We had plans. Remember?" "Sorry Lena, Christa called ahead and asked, and I said yes because I didn't recall us doing anything..." "But... Ymir," She gave me a pouty look. "Well, you have to choose." I was still at her window, Christa couldn't hear. "Fine." I said.
I looked back at Christa, who was fiddling wih her purse strap and looking at the rocks on the ground. I walked around to the passenger side of her car. "Hey, uh, Christa, Can I get a raincheck? I'm going to hang out with Lena tonight." She nodded. Her face was extremly red. "Have fun Ymir, I'll uh, call you so we can, uh, replan..." "Thanks Christa, your the best."
I felt bad, but Lena was back. It didn't seem to matter to me. I was free again. She stepped on the gas. We left Christa in our rear veiw mirror. "Let's do something crazy." The roof was down and everything seemed perfect. Lena was on the wrong side of the road and going eighty. It couldn't be anymore perfect to me. "Forget Christa. Quit feeling bad about her. Who cares, she'll find someone new to hang out with. Lena was right, I was turning into that monster again, who didn't care.
Lena laughed. "Christa an eat my dust!" She stepped on the gas again.
