I stared at the clock anxious to get home. I looked over at Christa who was furiously talking notes in our last class, science. I yawned and threw my head back. 'I should ask Christa to hang out after school, as friends and all...' I thought. 'I don't even know if she's into girls or not...' The bell rang. I awoke from my hazy trance and glanced in Christa's direction. She'd left class. I grabbed my books and walked toward the exit. I glanced around hoping to see her somewhere, but she was nowhere in sight. I sighed. I walked out of the huge front doors. I began to walk in the direction of home, when I heard Christa call my name from a distance. I turned around to see her holding hands with someone skipping towards me.
She smiled kindly. "This is Ymir, I met her this morning. She's already a good friend!" Christa said. "Ymir, this is Reiner, my boyfriend!" My heart sank into my stomach, or perhaps leapt up to my throat. It felt like someone was hammering on my heart and I was defenseless against it. I smiled at him. He had a natural stern look, but also a warming face. "Nice to meet you." He laughed. "Christa's been very enthusiastic about you ever sense this morning." "Really? That's nice to know I guess.... She's really sweet." I looked down at her. I put my left arm behind my head, rubbing it, and holding back my tears. 'You met her this morning Ymir?! Why are you so worked up over this anyway?!' "Well, I should get going and all..." I said breaking the silence. "Let's walk home together!" Christa announced. Reiner looked at his watch. "I've gotta run, see you later okay?" Reiner kissed Christa, got into his car and left, leaving us alone. "I-I didn't know you had a boyfriend..." I mumbled. "Well, we only met this morning... Recall?" I laughed and nodded. "This is my house." I pointed. "Funny! I live two houses down! Were neighbors! Let's walk to school together tomorrow, okay?" "Alright." I sighed. I stood in the same place as I watched her run and disappear into her house. I walked up my driveway and slammed the door behind me.
I went straight to my room and slid down against the door. I wiped the sweat from my forehead and slid under my blanket on my bed. I knew it was early to sleep, but I had a long tiring day.
I was awoken by thunder, lighting, heavy rain pounding on the roof, and my doorbell going off. I glanced at the clock. It was almost four in the morning. I had gotten out gotten out of bed and shuffled to the door. 'Im still in clothes... And I slept all evening and night.' I thought to myself. I opened the door a little bit being cautious about who was at the door at four in the morning. Christa stood in the doorway, soaked to the bone and crying. "Christa! Why are you here? It's almost four thirty!" I said. "I-I'm scared... The lighting is keeping me up..." Christa cried. "Come in..." I signed. Krista sat down and I gave her a towel. "I-I'm sorry! I'm kind of scared of thunder a-and lighting... I haven't slept at all..." Christa stuttered. "Why didn't you tell your parents or something?" "My parents died last fall in a fire." Christa mumbled. I sighed. "You can stay in our guest bedroom." I finally said. We walked down the hallway without speaking. "See you in a few hours." I said. Christa snuggled up into her bed. "Ymir..." She said. I turned around and looked at her. "Thank you." She smiled. I smiled and walked back into my room.
I looked at the clock. "TEN THIRTY?!" I screamed. 'Im late!' I thought. I ran to the guest bedroom. I was Christa laying there sound asleep. 'She must be tired, seeing as how she was up all night...' I decided not to wake her, and stay home for today.
It was about noon when Christa came out of the bedroom. "It's already noon!" Christa shouted. "I'm staying home today." "Why didn't you wake me up?!" "Christa, relax it's only the second day of school, it's fine." Christa sighed and walked to the bedroom. "I'm going home. Thank you for everything." She blushed and looked at her feet. "Anytime." She opened the front door. "C-Christa... Do you... Want to hang out later t-today?" I stuttered "Of corse! I'm glad you asked!" "T-thanks..." I laughed. She left. I stood there in silence.
