Act 1, Scene 1
The beats of the classical ballet music filled the gym as her flexible body arched on the floor exciting the onlookers who held their breaths to have the end to the day with the perfect floor routine of Aashka Khandelwal after she was done raising their expectations by her incredible performance on the vault, uneven bars and the balance beam which were part of the Artistic gymnastic event. The main competition was the other week, but her entire gym was present to see her rehearsal performance.
The fair young lady stood at the edge of the 40 feet long and 40 feet wide mat shaking her hand on her sides before she stepped into her performance field. She couldn't step out of the floor—made from foam/rubber and plywood combination because it made it bouncy, and enabled the competitors to gain height when they tumbled and even softened the landings; hence if she skipped it, she'll be disqualified along with suffering a few injuries.
The exercise lasted for ninety seconds and in those few seconds, a choreographed dance is performed which must sync with the instrumental music as well as provide entertainment.
She was four when she started and now she was twenty-four when she was the most popular gymnast.
The sport wasn't much in conversations in India as much as it was in abroad but well she didn't care for who loved what, she was a girl of her own dreams.
She peered the surroundings for once before she took a deep breath and allowed her body to move as per the soft piano music leading to the first three tumbles to the other side landing on her feet straight.
The audience cheered; she followed the first routine and ended up back on her original position bringing her hand in the Namaskar position to end the last event rehearsal for the day.
The coaches praised her; while her group of other three girls shook their head and left so did the others. As she was left alone, she spotted her father sitting right at the top row beaming at her.
"You're mighty fine, my strawberry." He said approaching her and she laughed.
"It might be because I'm blessed with mighty fine genes of Aayush Khandelwal. Isn't it?" She winked, and Aayush nodded sharing a brief hug with his youngest baby girl.
For any legacy to rise, the king and queen obviously go through tremendous amount of sacrifices which are not known to everyone, but Aashka knew about the compromises her parents had made in the past to give them a future full of only love, laughter and independence.
Hence, the Khandelwal legacy wasn't an empire built on the usual matter of fame, greed or money; it was built on the dimensions of unconditional love of Aayush and Raisha Khandelwal.
And till this day they followed a league where they were present for their kids at every small occasion.
Today, was no different though but seems like her mother was finally caught up by her management otherwise she's the first face Aashka saw after she stepped out of the performance floor.
"Where's Mumma?" Aashka asked as they made their way out of the gym.
"Where else? On her way, she received a call and she had to leave urgently." Aayush said sounding pissed. He still hated to appear in public places without Raisha.
